You missed the biggest one: Bodhichitta. Although that's the most important commitment.

Re: Requirements to be reborn in Guru Padmasambhava's pure land?
I've been told 1 million (or maybe 5 million now to the degenerate times) vajra guru mantras will do the trick.

Re: Manjushris Activity
In regards to Yidams it is often said that the ultimate nature is the same in all - yet they can be differentiated on a relative level according to their enlightened activities. So Medicine Buddha cures diseases, Tara is called upon for protection etc. But in the case of Manjushri these activities ...

Re: Offering bowl water and pets
Perhaps when you make the offerings, offer the water to not only all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, but also to your cats. That way they're not taking something that wasn't offered to them or exclusively offered to the three jewels. I'm sure the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas wouldn't mind sharing. You could e...

Re: Sleeping sitting up
I'm really interested in this: Garchen Rinpoche talks about sleeping upright Please do you know any details about it? I know that during some retreats one is not supposed to sleep lying down. Do you have any experience with it? Is it important to have a back support? What should be the position of ...

Re: Practices for epidemics and pandemics
I think the best piece of advice is to use this time to stay home and practice. You should not being going outside and wandering in samsara at this time. As people who have bee empowered with spiritual practice in a materialistic age, we need to use it and have it present in these days. Guru Rinpoc...

Re: Practices for epidemics and pandemics
Also some advice from Bardor Tulku Rinpoche today: In response to requests from students for advice on how to practice dharma in difficult situations, such as the current global health crisis, Bardor Tulku Rinpoche shared the following guidance on March 12, 2020. Because our great lineage holders an...

Re: Passing of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche
From the great teacher's I've seen, they've never played into my expectations of them. Very true. For years, every time Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche gave teachings at the (KTC) dharma center where I used to live, it rained..... But it was always regarded as auspicious, a "Rain Of Wisdom". It m...

Re: Passing of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche
I must confess I’m such a “true believer” that I’m surprised by the rain. That many Kagyu Rinpoche’s should be able to forestall the rain until after it’s over. :o Oh well. Guess not. Rain can be a teaching just as much as sunshine and rainbows. From the great teacher's I've seen, they've never pla...

Re: How to get angry qualitatively?
Colleagues, how to get angry qualitatively in the “greenhouse” conditions of tantric retreat (practice of angry yidam)? It is just as difficult to get angry when there is no everyday reason, as well as stop being angry when anger has already arisen (for everyday reasons). Even visualizing yourself ...

Re: texts/teachings on problems of alcohol
Hmm, unfortunately being reborn as a god isn't a particularly good motivator for me as it seems like that's just a roundabout ticket to a hell realm... I'd much rather be reborn as a human where I can practice the dharma if I can't get out this time around. So far the clearest/more direct I've come ...

Re: texts/teachings on problems of alcohol
Thanks all, I was hoping to find something which went into detail about the results of alcohol consumption (even better if related to effects on vajrayana practice) to serve as reminders, as well as something which went over the benefits of abstention. I know it's pretty basic stuff but I thought i...

texts/teachings on problems of alcohol
So I know there are some texts and teachings on the problems of smoking (e.g., from Guru Rinpoche) -- I was wondering if there was anything similar about the problems of consuming alcohol? I was looking for some texts/teachings which I could use as a contemplation on this.

Did a little googling and found this on the shambhala website: https://www.shambhala.com/lojong-mind-training/ However, there is a particular and very unique Nyingma presentation of lojong and that is Steps to the Great Perfection: The Mind-Training Tradition of the Dzogchen Masters. In this unique ...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche's affiliation
Especially for great masters I don't think affiliations are as clear or distinct as sometimes we'd like them to be. It makes sense to learn, put in to practice, and complete as many paths as you can so that you have the right tools and dharma for the right people at the right time. It seems like mos...
