Re: May be its time to ban discussion about Homosexuallity..

Having marriage equality in the most powerful country in the world is a breakthrough in human compassion and kindness for people who are different from the majority. Of course Buddhists want to talk about it! It doesn't need to be a big intellectual thing. If I fall in love with someone from Asia, I...

Re: Dudjom Tersar information list

That is an awesome list. I don't know how to do it, but there should be some way to highlight the centers that practice exclusively Dudjom Tersar or have a three year retreat facility. I'm not saying they are better than other centers that mix terma traditions, but if a serious student wants to go i...

Re: Dudjom tersar Ngondro Prerequisite

Ngodrupla i did know its a metaphor, but didnt wanted to mention about "not stopping the phowa practice till sign of accomplishment" as mentioned in the book. Since i got the khando wang i will do khando ngondro after i get Payja. Can you kindly let me know what 'other ngondro' there are from Dudjo...

Re: Any dzogchenpas ever feel the need to sell buddhist book

nice to have such immediate confirmation about this... thanks, Paul. There are many underpinnings of your question that I find interesting. Do I need to be a Dharma expert? Do I need to to be a scholar? Can I accept that I am not going to teach the Dharma? Is it okay to practice Dzogchen alone acco...

So long, my Dharma web

Dear Dharma Friends, I have been participating in on-line Dharma forums for many years, and my connections with some of you go back a decade or more. I have benefitted greatly from feeling a sense of connection with a world-wide community of people who are seriously interested in the BuddhaDharma. H...

Re: Best academic studies on (tibetan) buddhism?

I'm currently most interested in Jacob Dalton, Holly Gayly, and Sam Van Shaik. Sam is an accomplished scholar and a practising Buddhist (Longchen Nyingthig). Amongst Buddhist Buddhologists, the best is probably Professor Geoffrey Samuel (ChNN). :namaste: Thank you. I just downloaded Prof. Samuael's...

In academia you make a name for yourself by disproving others and coming up with innovative new theories. :techproblem:

I'm currently most interested in Jacob Dalton, Holly Gayly, and Sam Van Shaik. This reflects my interest in Nyingma History, Dzogchen and Tibetan yoginis.

Scholars who seem to have an agenda to disprove traditional histories, with a "I know better than you" attitude, are of no interest.

Re: Guenther

In my opinion, Nyingma practitioners don't need to be scholars or translators, or read Sanskrit, newspaper, or Dunhuang manuscripts. We need to be able to read the pithy practice instructions of Longchenpa and Jigme Lingpa, e.g. the Chö Ying Dzod (the Precious Treasury of the Basic Space of Phenome...

Re: Guenther

While I agree that learning Tibetan is by far the best way to approach Tibetan Buddhist materials (and I certainly don't want to dissuade people from making the effort), I respectfully take issue with the statement that Tibetan "isn't very hard". To begin with, there are few people alive, foreign o...
