Re: Does Karmapa return to Rumtek soon?
I'd never heard of Dawa Sangpo before these posts. Does he have any backers in the lineage supporting his claim? Mods, if this is against the ToS, then you can delete this post. See this thread: http://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?t=6738 Dawa Sangpo is a Sikkimese Sherpa, I think..... Indeed. I st...

Re: Minimum requirement for getting a relatively okay rebirth?
So what do you Tibetan Buddhists think about the necessary minimum requirements for at least avoiding a miserable life the next time I die on this potentially never-ending journey through samsara? Any good books on that? You know, to be honest, I think an attitude of how little can I get away with ...

Re: Does Karmapa return to Rumtek soon?
I think there is an assumption that this putative visit means a visit to Rumtek. It may not. He might just go to SIkkim but not Rumtek. Although, despite the ongoing court cases over Rumtek and its contents, these do not necessarily exclude Ogyen Trinley from visiting the monastery like anyone else....

Re: Does Karmapa return to Rumtek soon?
Then I suggest that you title future such threads something along the lines of ' Will Karmapa Ogyen Trinley return to Rumtek soon?' :namaste: I just tacked this on to a thread that someone else started. I'm afraid I have to reject your suggestion, though. As I said I think the race is run now. Some...

Re: Does Karmapa return to Rumtek soon?
There is nothing disingenuous about it.I do not deny that I challenge the idea that there is only one Karmapa candidate, the fact that there are two is simply that.. a fact. What I am questioning is your attribution of a particular motive to me. It is not to 'bring balance' merely. It results from ...

Re: Does Karmapa return to Rumtek soon?
I suspect that the forum guidelines concerning the debate about the Karmapa issue probably excludes the kind of triumphalism that you display above, Knotty Veneer. I would mention the fact that this is an area where the democratic vote is not an issue. This is not an episode of The USA/Britains Got...

Re: Does Karmapa return to Rumtek soon?
[ And you think that the return of one of the Karmapas is likely to see an increase in tourism, more than will the return of the other one? I wonder what the evidence for that is. Karmapa Thaye Dorje creates a lot of interest each time he visits Europe. Thaye Dorje has little support in Sikkim or m...

Seems this could be on the agenda again. I'll believe it when I see it.

it looks like representation of the 11-headed, 1000-armed form of Avalokiteshvara. He is usually portrayed as standing. First time I've seem an image of him sitting. Nice statue.

Re: Murder of Akong Rinpoche & Entourage
They probably wouldn't listen. But, in the non-Buddhist point of view, should they really? I mean, if it happened in Texas, judge probably would consider the seriousness of the crime before listen to the families opinions? (Plus, for Gyurme Wangye, the driver who also got killed, we don't know what...

Re: Murder of Akong Rinpoche & Entourage
This now reported in the British papers. How really, really sad. Akong Rinpoche would be appalled. Even though none of the families of those killed would want this, I'm sure, I fear the Chinese are not likely to listen.

Re: do I have to be a nice guy to be a buddhist?
As you try to put in practice the Buddha's teachings, your character should improve and you become less prone to the afflictive emotions that cause you to be rude, aggressive etc. Being rude, obnoxious etc. is a sign largely of spiritual immaturity, in my humble opinion My Dharma practice as it rela...

Re: How do you answer people who try to convert you?
I have used: "Be gone! The Lord Satan commands it!" With some success. Works best if done in a throaty growl while grimacing and rolling your eyes. Alternatively, a simple "Sorry, not interested" is best. Whatever you do, do not engage. These folks are trained in sales techniques...

Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to visit Germany 27-30 August
Karmapa has been given permission to visit the Kamashila Institute in Bonn:

Coming so soon after his 2-month trip to the US, it would seem that the previous restrictions on his travel are no longer in force.
Wonder if he will visit elsewhere in Europe?
