Jhado Rinpoche Tamdrin Yangsang, Palden Lhamo, Chamsing question
Hi I am looking for clarification on one of the mantras given during the empowerment today. It seems like two mantras were given during the Chamsing jenang portion of the empowerment. I was able to catch (write down and confirm) the second one, but beyond receiving the lung for the first, I was unab...

Re: Hello from the UK
Welcome. I am glad you have benefitted from coming into contact with the teachings of the Buddha. You sound very inspired and it is important to keep that energy tanked up throughout your practice. So, take your time and enjoy. On another note, I noticed you mentioned Bodhisattva KMC. Is KMC a Kada...

Re: Two truths in Mahayana Buddhism
When the Buddha taught the 4NT's, each of the Tenet schools developed as a result of a difference in interpretation of the meaning of the statement that "one should understand suffering even though 'there is no suffering'." This eventually would lead to differing presentations or concepts...

Re: Two truths in Mahayana Buddhism
I have some questions about two truths: 1.Do all Mahayana schools / sects accept two truths? 2. Why is conventional / relative truth still called temporary? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_truths_doctrine#:~:text=The%20Buddha's%20teaching%20of%20the,understand%20the%20Buddha's%20profound%20trut...

Re: Removing/renouncing vows made to figures of other religions
I don't think that there is any reason to formally renounce things associated with the past. If you take refuge in the three jewels (Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha),follow the advice that is to be upheld and that what is to be discarded/avoided this is sufficient. This includes the practice of not takin...

Re: Looking for formal "How things exist" analyses
Four Point Analysis contained within LTK's insight chapter of the Middle Length Lam Rim. There are entire books (texts, commentaries, chapters, etc...)dedicated to this--one in particular is Jeffery Hopkins translation called Tsongkhapa's Final Exposition of Wisdom See the Five (sometimes four) Madh...

Jhado Rinpoche will also be giving Kunrig teachings online from 12/30-1/5 to those who have received the empowerment (offered earlier in December).

Re: Comparison of Kagyu and Gelug schools?
Tsonkhapa is to Gelug as Marx is to Marxism. There’s what he wrote, and what people say it means. Marxism/Leninism! Tsongkhapism/Phabonkapism? Ok, but it sounds strange..... I like PeterC's analogy because the most intense critiques always come from people who have barely seen the front cover of Ca...

Re: Comparison of Kagyu and Gelug schools?
Gelug emphasizes extensive general Mahayana and Sutrayana from the Kadam tradition before Vajrayana. Kagyu emphasizes Vajrayana practices, in retreat when possible. General Mahayana and Sutrayana from the Kadam tradition do exist, but they don’t have the same emphasis. Both have Sarma Tantras and t...

Yes, it appears so he is talking about his qualifications for giving the initiation. Shaun :namaste: Yes fortunately I managed to receive the initiation. I didn't hear any specific commitments, did you? How wonderful. Unfortunately, I was not able to follow it all. I am looking forward to his teach...

Re: Does the Mo Divination System Require Empowerment?
but ALL mantras? All mantras. There exist dharāṇis, which may not require a lung. But all mantras do, especially for texts like Mipham's Mañjuśrī dice mo. Mipham's dice Mo, while it may not be necessary, I am under the impression that the accumulations (and the "blessing" of the dice) are...

He has been regarded as a "second Buddha." Padmasambhava, at an earlier time, was also given this title by his devotees.

Re: Comparison of Kagyu and Gelug schools?
Well, we have two pieces of evidence— Tsongkhapa’s own writing, and Pabhongkha’s confirmation of that position. There is a third piece as well, Gorampa’s refutation of Tsongkhapa’s position… Since what's at stake here is the question of what might have been transmitted but not written - i.e. the po...

Re: Comparison of Kagyu and Gelug schools?
It's where he got instructions on the nature of mind. He received instructions on the nature of mind from Sakya, Kagyu, and Nyingma teachers, but mostly, according to Geluk accounts, from Mañjuśrī in person. Also, Tsongkhapa rejected direct introduction. He learned Mahamudra from the DK lineage mas...

Re: Comparison of Kagyu and Gelug schools?
Tsonkhapa's lama was Drikung Kagyu. So... Tsongkhapa also studied at Drikung, where he received the Marpa transmission of Guhyasamaja as well as the six yogas of Naropa. How should we view Tsongkhapa's Book of Three Inspirations ? Should Tsongkhapa's Six Yogas be considered its own lineage, both si...

Re: Does learning Lamrim Chenmo mean you've learn the other Lamrim by other TB sects as well?
Just realized I had this document with a bibliography of Tsongkhapa's works that, at the time of compiling, had been translated into English. There are a few new editions and translations that are not included, most notably the Middle Length Stages of the Path--- This is the section of published Lam...
