Greetings

Post by Khep » Mon Aug 12, 2019 3:41 am

Hello, everyone.

I am 'sort of' new to the study and practice of Buddhism I enjoy exchanging thoughts and ideas with others, so here I am. I say 'sort of new' because I did some reading about Zen many years ago - including books by D. Suzuki, Erich Fromm, and others. So I have some understanding of at least a few of the basic concepts, I think. I have also practiced meditation - inconsistently - as best I could without any formal instruction.

However, now, some 45-50 years later, I feel a strong need for an actual religious practice I can believe in, and things appear, in a sense, to have come full circle.

Welcome!
Those who, even with distracted minds,
Entered a stupa compound
And chanted but once, “Namo Buddhaya!”
Have certainly attained the path of the buddhas.

-Lotus Sutra, Expedient Means Chapter

There are beings with little dust in their eyes who are falling away because they do not hear the Dhamma. There will be those who will understand the Dhamma.

:hi:
With a heart wandering in ignorance down this path and that, to guide me I simply say Namu-Amida-Butsu. -- Ippen

The Fundamental Vow [of Amitabha Buddha] is just for such people as woodcutters and grassgatherers, vegetable pickers, drawers of water and the like, illiterate folk who merely recite the Buddha's name wholeheartedly, confident that as a result of saying "Namu Amida Butsu" they will be born into the western land. -- Master Hōnen
