Greetings from Portugal

Post by Manjushri »

Hello everyone,

I'm a 30 year old man from Portugal. Found Buddhism abroad, some 5 years ago in the UK, after buying an old copy of "Buddhist Scriptures" from Penguin Classics and visiting the Cambridge Buddhist Centre, as I lived in the city for 3 years throughout my bachelor studies. Got instantly intrigued and fascinated by the Buddha's (and its followers') words and teachings. Been exploring Buddhism ever since, with increasing interest, which has lead me to acquire, read and study texts from Mahayana, Theravada, Mahamudra, Dzogchen, Ch'an, Zen, and other traditions, from India, Tibet, China, Korea and Japan. Would like to consider myself to have a Buddhist outlook on life, as I recognize the truth and virtue of its tenets, though in practical terms there's much to be desired as I embarassingly often succumb to the passions and don't meditate as much as I wish.

Came across this forum while looking for some clarifications regarding Nagarjuna's "Seventy Stanzas", which I'm currently reading and attempting to understand. Hopefully this Forum will have someone knowledgeable and kind enough to help me on this, and perhaps future issues in which I may come across. As a layman with not much experience or knowledge, I'm surely bound to hit some obstacles during my path. Will create a thread for that matter in the appropriate place in due time.

Without further ado, I want to wish health and happiness to all users on this Forum.

Thank you.

Welcome!
I look forward to following along with your inquiries!
Those who, even with distracted minds,
Entered a stupa compound
And chanted but once, “Namo Buddhaya!”
Have certainly attained the path of the buddhas.

There are beings with little dust in their eyes who are falling away because they do not hear the Dhamma. There will be those who will understand the Dhamma.
