Hi there,
I was directed here from a Facebook forum, I was told this was the online place to be for Buddhist practitioners.
My main interest is in the Gelug tradition. My primary practice is Shamatha and study. I also make use of the Green Tara mantra. I have not yet received any empowerments, in this part of the world teachers don't come round too often and the local Gelug temple has to make do with what is available, they provide an excellent service despite the difficulties.
I'm South African, and as you may know HH the Dalai Lama is not allowed to enter the country due to SA's political ties with China - but this too shall pass.
I'm happy to be a member here. Looking forward to happy discussions.

Re: Hi!
Hello
Is that the Lam Rim centre you visit?
It's nice to have another gelugpa on here to talk to, and it's such a shame that His Holiness can't visit SA

Thank you for the warm welcome. Yes it is sad indeed that His Holiness cannot visit, we need him most at this critical time in our country. The conditions for change are arising though, so I'm optimistic.
Yes, I go to the Lam Rim temple

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
At the Lam Rim temple here there is no resident teacher, there are visiting teachers. The spiritual director is Venerable Geshe Damcho Yonten. There are two custodians at the temple, they are brilliant, they run the weekly meditations and pujas. Here's the link to the temple's website: http://www.lamrim.co.za/
