My name is Neel Lex Lumi, 25, Israel. I’m majoring in linguistics and East Asian studies. I’m taking a class on Buddhism in Japan with Dr. Irit Averbuch (yes, THAT Dr. Averbuch, conductor of the groundbreaking research into Shugendou the Yamabushi), and I’m writing a paper on homosexuality in Japanese Buddhism.
However, most of the material I’ve found was about pederasty with young acolytes (稚児 chígo), Kuukai and Zen, and a bit about early Buddhism and Tokugawa. There is very little material on three topics in particular:

[*]Lay followers
[*]Female homosexuality
I understand they apparently received little attention by practitioners and clergy alike, but whatever does appear is few and far in between. I’ve tried writing various temples in Japan about this but got no response; all I got was a mojibake’d response from Todaiji:
