Giving Up Masturbation

Post by Motova » Sat Dec 09, 2017 9:53 pm

Does anyone have any tricks to give up masturbation?

I generally use it to have a nice and easy sleep.

I don't watch porn or look at tits and ass on google.

Thank you.

The four means of converting beings to the Dharma are generosity (which itself as four aspects: giving material gifts, conferring fearlessness, loving kindness and teaching Dharma), pleasant speech, conduct and setting an example.

I'm thinking more exercise and less time on the internet.

Sounds more useful than not. What are the downsides you feel masturbation has on you?

I feel it stops me from integrating my body's regular hormone cycles into my practice.

I also feel it would help me have more lucid dreams.

Yeah but I rather do it in a lucid dream than with my hand.

I want to rid myself of dependencies, if I can masturbate with pure Bodhicitta then fine. But I feel I'm babying myself.

I would recommend having a designated masturbation day once a week. I find extended periods of abstinence (several months+) leave me agitated and with a worse off mental position. Additionally this way you can ease into it, after three or so months you can extend that range to one day every two weeks and so on.

From what I've seen people have had a harder time of it than I did and can't go cold turkey for months at a time, they always fail their resolution relatively quickly so this way seems best imo.

It's really just the hand wanking I want to give up now, dream sex is fine.

IME LS has the right idea, start with moderation and a desire to productively use excess sexual energy, and keep the natrative about it to a minimum.

Caffeine really overloads my sex drive, worth at least looking if something like that is involved.

Exercise, Tsa Lung etc. Help me to keep my raging hormones in check. I wouldve thought that by my age it would've decreased on it's own, but no such luck.

Porn and advertising are the art forms of the future. The possibilities are endless. Comedy, reality shows, etc. the episodes will be 2 more muted each and you can’t binge watch the whole season.

Heh thought this was only at TheDaoBums, but it seems to spread. I think nofap and thedaobums are better sites for this question. Otherwise I think it is best to be mindful about your masturbation and the reasons why you do it. If you feel too tired afterwards or do it too often then don't if you don't feel that then do. There are no easy tricks. Listen to your body and be mindful and you will know one way or another. But don't go into that whole nofap craze, not having some "me"time won't make you a better person or turn you into a siddha.

Caffeine messed up my sleep cycle so I felt like I had to wank to sleep.

Luckily I have given up caffeine.

Honestly I feel integrating one's sexuality into one's Dharma practice is probably one of the keys to becoming a siddha.

Enlightening topic. Have you ever heard of a Teyu rang? Maybe you have a gang of them in your bedroom. Protector pujas might help.

According to Buddhism the world is flat and supported by turtles. There's a lot of good to be said about Buddhism, but a well developed discriminatory wisdom goes a long way too.
