Extraordinary Women Practitioners

Post by Punya » Thu Sep 21, 2017 11:10 pm

The thread is intended as a homage to great women practitioners. Please add stories and photos you find inspiring.

This first story is about the extraordinary realisation of Mayum Kunsang Dechen, consort of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and mother of Chokyi Nyima and Tsikey Chokling Rinpoches, as told by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche:

Just as the trunk of an ordinary tree
Lying in the forests of the Malaya mountains
Absorbs the perfume of sandal from the moist leaves and branches
So you come to resemble who whomever you follow.

Agness Au

She is not well known outside of the Shambhala community, but she is a very good teacher- powerful and energetic. I was lucky enough to study with her briefly in New York.

I'm sure there are many women practitioners (and men) who fit this category- powerful and compassionate, without running an entire community, without having published books or done public appearances.

And I know them personally and so can attest to their positive qualities as practitioners and teachers. Plus, they are western women, and it is high time westerners are recognized for their qualities of study and practice, especially women.

I think you know that my tongue was firmly in my cheek..You also know that I think inverse racial prejudice is a serious issue among Vajrayana students.
