Survey says...
There is no suffering to be severed. Ignorance and klesas are indivisible from bodhi. There is no cause of suffering to be abandoned. Since extremes and the false are the Middle and genuine, there is no path to be practiced. Samsara is nirvana. No severance achieved. No suffering nor its cause. No path, no end. There is no transcendent realm; there is only the one true aspect. There is nothing separate from the true aspect.

If we are talking about those who taught what Buddha taught, Padmasambhava. Clearly, the superguru.

If by "most famous" one means name recognition among the greatest number of humans (aside from Shakyamuni) then perhaps yes , the current Dalai Lama. Of historical figures, likely Bodhidharma/Tamo, whose name and image have been familiar to many generations of people pan-East Asia.

In addition to those already mentioned:
TNH has to be in the current list.
Historical figures, other mentions probably include Zhiyi, Xuanzang, Milarepa, ShanTao, Saicho, Kumarajiva, Tsongkapa, Kukai, Nagarjuna, Vasubandhu, Buddhagosa, Nagasena, Asanga, etc.

Art Garfunkel
Simon & Garfunkel went on hiatus in 1970 and during that time, Art Garfunkel took advantage of his math skills by heading into the teaching field and taking a position at Litchfield Private School. Of course, a few years later, the group released their Greatest Hits album, and he retired from his teaching position after only a two years.
