At last! :jumping:
It works! All I had to do was going to allzip and disassociate the program from jar files. Then by simply clicking the icon it worked like a charm. :woohoo:
How could I miss such a simple step?...

It is UNIQUE and frighteningly and miraculously accurate in my experience even looking at the day's entry for the first time at the end of a day. For planning major events it is indispensable as many unfortunately found out and now live by it. No other calendar tells you what a day is like, hence help you plan/avoid, depending on your year of birth sign.
We can add the basic good day/bad day for prayer flag raising and general in/auspicious days, etc. and could personalize it as well but as you noted to do this in detail (other than the generalized versions) requires considerable Tibetan astrological knowledge so we will probably never get that in depth with this little desktop application. I'll have to check out CNNR's calendar.

Re: Tibetan Calendar

I was going to put an update out this morning but the layout under Windows appears more skewed than I expected so I have to work on that a bit.

I dropped Tara practice days and the 12 Guardian Deity practice notation and the dakini day on the 5th of the Tibetan months as I could not find documentation for those days on other Tibetan calendars that I have access to. I plan on adding a selectable parinirvana days by lineage shortly. I would also like to being internationalization as soon as possible including Tibetan, Mongolian and Chinese but will need help with that. We can add non-astrological features as people like. If astrological data gets rolled in, then that will be further down the road.

Thanks Dechen and Madeliaette!

I did put an updated version of the calendar, ver 0.15 on my website this afternoon. The layout on my Windows machine is better and going to a Tibetan date was added - including doubled days (if you want to go to the actual doubled date, add a b to the date).

Tomorrow, 15 June 2011, is Saka Dawa. This is the cellebration of the birth, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha and is one of the four major holy days on the Tibetan Buddhist calendar. On top of that there is a lunar eclipse so altogether merit is multiplied 10,000,000 times.

We are facing difficult times worldwide. I hope everyone could come together and recite 21 Tara sadhana and Shakyamuni Buddha sadhana 100,000 - 1,000,000 times and dedicate their practice for the benefit and happiness and the ultimate enlightenment of all beings.

If anyone has any suggestions for the desktop Tibetan Calendar please let me know. My work/financial situation appears to be resolving for the better (and I hope that finally does go through soon) and I can add this to my list of projects to focus on.

One of the things I was going to add is Mongolian, Tibetan and Chinese language capability. We can add Portuguese, Spanish, French, German (I might just go ahead and add German on my own), Dutch and whatever else might be helpful.

I was also going to add selectable lineage dates including Parinirvana dates.

Tomorrow, Monday 12 September, is the 15th day of the 7th Tibetan month - Amitabha Day. Merit and demit is multiplied 100 times. HH Trulshik Rinpoche said (in 1999) to perform Shakyamuni sadhana on these days 8th, 15th and 30rd) or at least recite Shakyamuni Buddha's mantra. It is also an excellent time to take the Eight Mahayana Precepts for a day.

Today is Medicine Buddha Day. This Saturday is Guru Rinpoche Day. There is also a partial solar eclipse on Friday 25 Nov.

But on Thursday 17, November is Descent From Heaven Day, Lhabab Duchen. Merit is multiplied 10 million times. This is the day celebrated as the return of Shakyamuni Buddha from the Heaven of the Thirty Three (a high god realm) where he physically went to teach his mother, Queen Maya, the Dharma (she died shortly after Shakyamuni Buddha was born). This is the last major holiday of the year until Losar.

Does anyone have the dates and details for the 11th and 12th months of the Water Dragon year coming up? I'm getting the ecalendar I did last year out the door as soon as possible but the calendar I'm using right now only runs to Dec 2012.

Thanks!

Thanks Ngodrup!

I was hoping to have it out by now but I was delayed. I hope to have a beta version out within 24 hours and a better version in a month.

Re: Tibetan Calendar

I do have an alpha version of the Tibetan calendar for 2139, the Water Dragon year, available here.

Unfortunately my ISP has disallowed Java JAR files so this is an actual compressed zip file. I also tried to upload the JAR file here but the board also disallows JAR files. So you will need to unzip it after you download it in order to run it. I have not been able to test this on a Windows machine yet so I don't know for sure how it looks under Windows.

I will try to remedy the situation by hosting the program on another ISP and also by generating a native Windows executable. However I don't know if that can be done for Mac's. So for right now, if you want to use this calendar you will unfortunately have to extract it/uncompress it by hand.

This isn't changed much over the previous year except that the dates are correct for the Water Dragon Year and I have expanded a bit on the Buddha days and added Bodhisattva days according to the scheme outlined on Jeff Watt's discussion of Tibetan Holy days. As such, this may reflect an unintentional Sakya bias.

I have not had time to add Parinirvana dates and birthdays (exepct for HH 14th Dalai Lama's Birthday which I also included in 2138). I will include these dates and add other enhancements within about a month. So another version is on the way.

Happy Water Dragon Year!
