Can a First Bhumi Bodhisattva Kill a Person Out of Anger?

Post by Thomas Amundsen » Fri Dec 01, 2017 12:31 am

Hi all,

Pretty straight-forward question: is it possible for a first bhumi bodhisattva to kill a human being out of anger? Or is a practitioner on such a stage beyond this type of non-virtue?

It is not possible. A 1st Bhumi Bodhisattva is completely beyond this kind of negativity.

However I cannot find a definite reference for this.

But the 1st bhumi is the stage where one has become an Arya Bodhisattva, As such they are incapable of harming intentionally.

How about in the case of sea captain who saved 500 merchants by killing?
May all beings be free from suffering and causes of suffering

Then, the Licchavi Vimalakīrti spoke to the elder Śāriputra and the great disciples: “Reverends, eat of the food of the Tathāgata! It is ambrosia perfumed by the great compassion. But do not fix your minds in narrow-minded attitudes, lest you be unable to receive its gift.”

This was done out of compassion and not anger.
