No quote mark please

Post by Nicholas Weeks »

This request applies to all three of the Dharma boards. When quoting anything it looks like this:
Buddha - Dharma - Sangha
Since the quotation is surrounded by a contrasting color, is it possible to delete the beginning " 66 mark?
May all seek, find & follow the Path of Buddhas.

How would you suggest a quotation be shown when there isn't an author listed? A different-colored box with nothing else isn't clearly a quotation to my eyes. I don't remember what it was like before :rolleye:

On the upper-right hand portion of every post there will be two icons. The second is to quote the post, the first is to report.

The whole post will then be automatically coded in as a quotation. To quote lesser portions of text you will have to do some editing, and so on. If you play around with it you will see how it works. If you click the quote icon on a post that has many quotes in it, you can see how it has been formatted by the author.

All the best,

Kevin

Passel: an additional new feature that I love is the tiny arrow ↑ next to people's names in quotations. Clicking that will take you to the post in question. It makes it so much easier to follow threads now!

Not much different -
quote="Monlam Tharchin" ... /quote in square brackets and no stylised quotation marks.

For this new setup, most quotes being a previous poster, between their name being given plus the tiny arrow, that covers that. If a shastra or any buddhadharma is quoted, then the poster should add the source, and then put the quote box around the quote and source (or not). Really not too big a deal.

Those numbers (e.g. post_id=413129 time=1509164803 user_id=6258 ) link the quote back to its source and are normally hidden from view - 'behind' the dagger icon that you can now click to go to the original.
Can we all try to remember the Three Marks and not stress too much about change?

If you have more questions you can click on FAQ on top of the page in the left.

app.php/help/faq

A good way to get to know the functions is as well trial. As long as you do not click "send" nothing happens but you'll be more knowledgeable.

AFAI understand, you are bothered because the quoting marks " look like the number 66 for you?
I don't believe an Administrator can change that. It seems to be the design of the forum's software.

Maybe you should view at these marks as very lar ge ". They are no number.

If anything could be altered, in terms of the forums software, DNS is the person to contact as he has access all areas.

The 'problem' is just my fussy old proofing habit, or quirk of my mind. In older times of printed material a quoted section would have only the beginning quote mark - the 66. The 99 or close quote mark would only appear at the end of the section, even if there had been 11 paragraphs. Each paragraph would repeat the 66 at the start of the para. In more recent times each paragraph would have both a 66 & a 99 at the end.

So when we use
the quote function
here, the surrounding contrasting color is all that is needed. No quote marks are necessary.

Everyone bored enough, including DNS? - good, consider subject dropped.
May all seek, find & follow the Path of Buddhas.
