"Thanks" on posts?

Post by kausalya »

I've often wondered if this would be possible to enable. It would be nice to have a way of showing gratitude for helpful posts, without resorting to a new post to do so.

For as long as sentient beings remain,
Until then may I too remain
To dispel the miseries of the world."

There were several topics on this at DWT and here is one of the longer ones:

https://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4747
TLDR: moderators were opposed to it and also in a non-binding poll, the majority of members were also against it:

https://dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30359
81% opposed to like buttons.

Wow, I searched but didn't find those! Thank you.

For the record, my original question was based on something I've seen on other sites—a line underneath the individual post reading, "The following user(s) said Thank You:"
"For as long as space remains,
For as long as sentient beings remain,
Until then may I too remain
To dispel the miseries of the world."

I don't think we need that up-vote, down-vote dynamic. It inevitably leads to a hive mind editorial standard - people play to the likes. It would be even worse if it actually listed the users who "liked" - another way to assert identity.

Don't be lazy.

Press, "Reply", hit the " :thanks: " emoji, press "Submit". Three mouse clicks or taps on the phone as the case may be.
There is no suffering to be severed. Ignorance and klesas are indivisible from bodhi. There is no cause of suffering to be abandoned. Since extremes and the false are the Middle and genuine, there is no path to be practiced. Samsara is nirvana. No severance achieved. No suffering nor its cause. No path, no end. There is no transcendent realm; there is only the one true aspect. There is nothing separate from the true aspect.
