Poem from Gendun Chopel
Antic Charade
No matter where, no matter who,
In Calcutta, Nepal or Beijing
Or in Lhasa in the land of snow mountains,
When I look at them like this,
For me, all people behave the same way
At the sight of tea, butter or clothes.
Even those who do not like noise and chatter
Who are calm and civil,
Think of nothing else than an old sinner.
The proud noble rogues love adulation and flattery,
And the people love skulduggery and trickery.
The youth loves the play and the joys of love,
Almost everyone now loves beer and tobacco.
People are attached to their families,
Hate and reject anyone who comes from elsewhere.
For me, the raw nature of every human being is like an ox!
Because of their reputation, they make a pilgrimage to Tsari.
They practice the difficult mastery of cold and heat,
To earn her food.
They recite Buddha’s word against payment.
If you think about it clearly,
Everything happens only for profit.
For me, hats, robes, flags and canopies,
Sacrificial cake, food and drink offerings,
All the rites that we perform
Nothing but a splendid charade.
Although there is no luck,
Neither in the valley nor on top of the summit,
We have no choice but to stay on this earth
Like in a stable or dog kennel,
Until this deceptive body of flesh and blood disappears.
Oh! So much frankness will be sure to offend everyone! from one who bears the name Dharma (chö).

...poor you, with such an appearance on the surface it's understandable, though
there is more to it than the surface, so stay tuned...

Re: Poem from Gendun Chopel
I mean that's all there is
as response to the poem from gendun chopel?
Or did the poem trigger a kind of "personal" attack?
If so, then why ? ?
Honestly, I am a bit shocked, despite of my "cool" reaction above !!!

It's the human condition, why does it seem shocking? Are we supposed to pretend otherwise? For what reason? It is what it is. And he is forced to love and accept it anyway LOLPuerAzaelis wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 7:16 pmMe too.veggiepeace wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 2:08 pm Honestly, I am a bit shocked, despite of my "cool" reaction above !!!

I liked it. No need for rose glasses.
Maybe my reading is off, but to me it seems that he states that this is all from a certain perspective: "When I look at them like this,"

there is a tone of bitterness, but whats notable about this assessment is that he successfully takes inventory of the human condition, No harm no foul.
