If samsara had a theme song...

Post by Huseng »

If samsara had a theme song, what would it be?

I nominate the original Terminator soundtrack:

Apparently it's something like this:

If there should be a single theme song, I vote for this (both song and lyrics):

phpBB [video]

"One who stays focused on the beautiful,
is unrestrained with the senses,
knowing no moderation in food,
apathetic, unenergetic:
Mara overcomes him
as the wind, a weak tree."

(Dhp 7)

"Behold the puppets prancing on the stage, and see the man behind who pulls the strings."
(The Zen Teaching of Rinzai, tr. Irmgard Schloegl)
1 Myriad dharmas are only mind.
Mind is unobtainable.
What is there to seek?

2 If the Buddha-Nature is seen,
there will be no seeing of a nature in any thing.

3 Neither cultivation nor seated meditation —
this is the pure Chan of Tathagata.

4 With sudden enlightenment to Tathagata Chan,
the six paramitas and myriad means
are complete within that essence.

This one is maybe not so epic, but it is sung epic and it fits:

On second thought, this one might be better:

I don't think you can put just one song. Think you would need different songs for each realm.

Hell realm

I feel like this is fitting:

By understanding everything you perceive from the perspective of the view, you are freed from the constraints of philosophical beliefs.
By understanding that any and all mental activity is meditation, you are freed from arbitrary divisions between formal sessions and postmeditation activity.

Edit
Maybe I should add a small explanation. I chose this one because to me it has beauty, attraction, happiness, hope, melancholy and disillusionment at the same time.

"Samsara literally means "wandering-on." Many people think of it as the Buddhist name for the place where we currently live — the place we leave when we go to nibbana. But in the early Buddhist texts, it's the answer, not to the question, "Where are we?" but to the question, "What are we doing?" Instead of a place, it's a process: the tendency to keep creating worlds and then moving into them. As one world falls apart, you create another one and go there. At the same time, you bump into other people who are creating their own worlds, too."
Thanissaro Bhikkhu (http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/auth ... msara.html)

[ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/fantasy-lyri ... -fire.html ]
Every man has a place
In his heart there's a space
And the world can't erase his fantasies
Take a ride in the sky
On our ship, fantasize
All your dreams will come true right away

And we will live together
Until the twelfth of never
Our voices will ring forever, as one

Every thought is a dream
Rushing by in a stream
Bringing life to the kingdom of doing
Take a ride in the sky
On our ship, fantasize
All your dreams will come true miles away

Our voices will ring together
Until the twelfth of never
We all will live love forever, as one

Come to see victory
In a land called fantasy
Loving life, a new degree
Bring your mind to everlasting liberty

As one, come to see victory
In a land called fantasy
Loving life for you and me
To behold, to your soul is ecstasy

You will find other kind
That has been in search of you
Many lives has brought you to
Recognize, it's your life now in review

And as you stay for the play
Fantasy has in store for you
A glowing light will see you through
It's your day, shining day
All your dreams come true

As you glide in your stride
With the wind as you fly away
Give a smile from your lips and say
I'm free, yes I'm free, now I'm on my way

Come to see victory
In a land called fantasy
Loving life for you and me
To behold, to your soul is ecstasy

You will find other kind
That has been in search of you
Many lives has brought you to
Recognize, it's your life now in review

They teach us that life is what life is; flawed.
Yet with tremendous potential for joy and fulfillment.
