Because most will take what they have heard and seen and thought about and it will be colored by their preexisting habitual continuum and most quite often will turn what you have intended into something that fits with the perpetration of the ego habit.

Especially if one's own color mixed with the conditioning is
coming from either of the two extremes.

When dharma begins to feed the demons it becomes deviant. Magic mongers.
Is that why the Buddha says enlightenment is not magic?

Yes, if you are a really stubborn person, then hallucinogens can be administered in order to demonstrate to you that your mind is not a fixed thing.
That is an awesome reason.

The thing about marijuana is , um...
uh....okay, okay. You know , like, okay. like, you aren't high, and then you, like, you are high,
and there's like this thing, you know?
and, um...when you ummmmm....

....what were we talking about?

Round these parts less verbalization is not necessarily a bad thing.

having spent the first 16 years of my life not being high,
and the next 18 years of my life high almost constantly,
and following that, another 23 years not being high,
in my experience, pot is definitely an eye-opener. No doubt about that.
And maybe not too bad for someone exploring buddhism to loosen up the way they experience the
comings and goings of their own mind.
But the clarity of vision and insight and peace of mind during the last stage (not being high)
totally surpasses being high
the way that sunlight coming in through a clear window
surpasses any interesting patterns of dirt and fingerprints
that would appear on a dirty window.
At this point, i would only smoke pot
if I wanted to come down from that.

Folks in the Vajrayana Sangha I go with used to joke that
in the west, there are two types of converts to Buddhism:
ex-dopers, and ex-Catholics.

I don't think pot opened my eyes much. LSD on the other hand...

I have been smoking cannabis almost every day for the past few weeks. Before that I hadn't smoked in 9 months or so. I found that if I was high during meditation it made it much harder to focus my attention on what I wanted to. More unwanted thoughts came up, and it was easier to get distracted by them. Meditating while sober feels much more worthwhile afterward. When I discovered this, I stopped smoking earlier in the day and only did it after my meditation session. It makes doing household chores and exercising more enjoyable for me, and I seem more likely to actually do those things on the drug; though once the bag I bought runs out I doubt I'll purchase more for a few months at least.

The way I see it, smoking a little weed is like having a glass of wine, or a couple beers (which I also enjoy sometimes). It's not a positive factor in our practice, but I don't think even a person that is high 24/7 (such as one who takes it for serious medical reasons) would see it nullify all of the benefits of meditation and mindfulness. If anything I think it would just slow down the progress.

The real crime is in the court systems imprisoning cannabis users, and the illegal markets working to the advantage of violent criminal organizations.

I spent my teenage years in the 70s when Marijuana was very mild compared to todays high octane thc content. I couldn't deal with the high then and I am sure I wouldn't like it now. I have a glass of wine with dinner, that's all the high I need, I brew my own wine so it's not very strong. I do smoke my homegrown tobacco in peace pipe once in a while during the summer, no high there except a connection with my ancestors. I've tried several other kinds of drugs though the years, nothing can compare to a nice calm carefree mind.

I promote the freedom to live as you wish if you don't hurt anyone

I used to enjoy it a long time ago, but the new super-strains just make me sleepy.

1. ganja is a teacher
2. If you want to learn from her, you have to be committed
3. You go through stages, feeling dopey is one, but you get clear
4. You have to find the right tree, the lamb's bread

Cause and effect is in effect here man. If you gather the ganja from the party man, you will get a party high. If you gather your ganja from a spiritual man, like if you cultivate it for that purpose, you can have a high meditation.

5. Ganja is a strong feeling. If you have the instructions on recognizing space in feeling, then you can take that on the path and see the clarity within.
6. Ganja is an emotional purgative. It flushes emotions out. So when you feel a rush of strong emotion, you know it's working. But if you dwell on it, you throw off the process.
7. If you have direct introduction and can rest in your nature, ganja won't alter anything and actually helps bliss.
8. Once you are no longer distracted by the feeling tone, you can carry on with normal life. You won't be stoned, you'll be enlightened.

Also, strong dopiness is a strong occurrence of ignorance. This too can be taken on the path, e.g., using Gampopa's instructions for recognizing the clear light in confusion. Use what seems like poison as medicine.
