I hate Lana Del Rey , and have a secret longing for Mangosteens.

The gap between my commitments and my conduct is far too wide. I'm lazy & lax with myself, but impatient with others--put together, that makes a hypocrite. I could go on but, as I said, lazy...

I smell Christianity, so I will say: Since Jesus died on the cross for all our past and future sins, I have nothing to confess, since all is redeemed. How clever of him!

Formal and sometimes public confession of faults is pretty mainstream in aa number of Buddhist traditions.
I know nothing. This is not false modesty.

Ah, oushi, didn't you hear of the "4 Forces"/ 4 Powers" ?
I don't find any link, but confessing is a means for clearing up and losing bad Karma.
The means is to say it openly (at least to oneself), don't hide it, regreting it(1), don't want to do it again (2), asking the Buddhas & Bodhisattvas for supporting this task (3) and dedicating the merits of ones sadhanas to this task (4).

But mainly it is about harming others. To be no Buddhist doesn't harm anybody. To say a lie harms.
If one only harms himself, it is a harm too.

I can confess right here, that in my real life I have to work on right speach and on concentration on my duties...
I have decided to stick with love.
Hate is too great a burden to bear.

And they can be helpful for someone who sometimes has unrealistic expectations projected onto him or her by well-meaning people.

They can. Also for those who are seeing the effects of their own actions and taking responsibility for them.
I know nothing. This is not false modesty.

I confess that I all too easily give in to laziness and identify all too readily with a limited self.

I am reluctant to give up harmful short-term pleasure, often at the expense of others.
I can be very lazy about cultivating metta. Too lazy to love people! :toilet:
With a heart wandering in ignorance down this path and that, to guide me I simply say Namu-Amida-Butsu. -- Ippen

The Fundamental Vow [of Amitabha Buddha] is just for such people as woodcutters and grassgatherers, vegetable pickers, drawers of water and the like, illiterate folk who merely recite the Buddha's name wholeheartedly, confident that as a result of saying "Namu Amida Butsu" they will be born into the western land. -- Master Hōnen

A cup that is full can't be filled. Confession is simply to empty the cup. If we remove the religious baggage, we may just see an empty cup.
