Before Obama, no tea party. After Obama...you connect the dots.
I was there at the beginning - see my link above. It started because of the bailouts. They hated Bush, too, especially Paulson's midnight stick-up of the treasury.
It started with finance guys who were screaming for the whole thing to collapse and reset, or alternatively, if the government was going to pay out money, calling for infrastructure instead of bank bailouts. Relevant:
Then the hoi polloi joined with the Koch brothers seeding the astro-turf phase. And then all that birther crap came up, but that was later.
Now, I'm not saying that the gold bugs and bond traders who started it all are not racist. But race was not the motivating issue for them. Sentiment breaks right among that crowd, but there were just as many calling for a New Deal. It wasn't until the yahoos got involved that the New Deal faction bailed out. A lot of them, I suspect turned out for Bernie.
This is racist as f^%K:
Do we really want to subsidize the losers’ mortgages? This is America!
And we can see that his comments provoked immediate observations that his sentiments were racist.
Rick Santelli is heir to this legacy laced with racist overtones. Note the promo before the rant in the video link at CNBC. CNBC has an upcoming special entitled The Rise of America’s New Black Overclass. Fear mongering, it’s worked before so let’s try it again. It’s back to the 1970s for the GOP and their rabid white ethnics.
The tea party is racist as f&^k and always as been, including this rant by Santelli that started is all.
Santelli’s “rant” was not really aimed at Big Government or corporate cronyism or high tax levels or corruption or any of the targets soon claimed for the tea party. It was a rant at those shiftless poor people who took out mortgages they should have known they could not repay and then expected virtuous successful people like Santelli himself to rescue them with his tax dollars. Perhaps Santelli did not have a racist bone in his body — how should I know? — but he was pushing a narrative beloved of racists at all times and in all places. They resent those people who seek to escape their just desserts via force, whether it’s through street crime or the organized larceny of government redistribution.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if this is part of the reason people are pissed.
They wanted to see a wholesale collapse of the present economic system - a reset based on what they consider tangible value - hard work, ingenuity, GOLD. When the complete collapse didn't happen, they focused their anger on Obama because he stood in the way, bailing out people who took more loan than they could afford, as well as the banks that set up the macro-architecture of the whole scheme - mortgage backed securities.
I suspect there is an intersection here of doomsday preppers, white nationalists, and zombie show fans.

It is plain old white privilege and racism. I don't understand why you resist this.

I might be blind here because those "rabid white ethnics" are my people. That sort of racism is rampant in New York, and its not just the "white ethnics". Its everybody. Everybody has a low boil hate for each other. Except maybe the liberal white hay seeds who have colonized NY in the last 15 years. Screw those a-holes. LOL

People got sensitive because a lot of first time home owner minorities got screwed in the mortgage collapse, but it hit poor whites as well. Those "white ethnics" don't just have it out for minorities. They look down on everyone who they perceive as slacking. I've got Irish family who have as much disdain for Hells Kitchen Irish as for blacks and hispanics. White trash is just as loathesome.
We need to make a distinction here that in real life, hate is not limited by race - its just one of the categories that we pay more attention to.

There's hope. A friend of mine is a descendant of King Athelstan, and there is apparently good evidence that they have an historical claim to ownership of Long Island. After several decades of litigation, for some reason, the US is not minded to give it back to these Welsh folk.

Right, and what I'm saying is that the Tea Party did not start out as what it became. It might have just been for a very short instant when it was people upset primarily about the economic policy. The racism came out when the "hoi polloi" jumped on the bandwagon. Those (hoi polloi) are not the people on the commuter trains going back to the burbs. The Tea Party became a front for racists when it spread to places like South Carolina and rural Pennsylvania. Those people are, no dispute from me, racists, and they're f'in stupid, too.
Anyways, I'm finding myself in the very awkward position of trying to distinguish non-racist phases of the Tea Party and its not a look I want.
I don't want NYC either. 6 million people enabling each other to cultivate the three poisons, walking around all manic. Screw these people.

I live in a rebel state. There's really no space for conversation. You doubt the liberals, you get fired and lose all of your friends. This is what they thought progressive means.
Amen to that. The problem isn't confined to the right wing "assholes" another poster complained about. In many ways the Left's behavior is indistinguishable from the early Marxists, complete with rigid Party Line, character assassination and pogroms against anyone not on the Left. For example, Antifa - a terrorist Communist group, its only raison d'etre to violently disrupt legal, peaceful gatherings of Republicans, conservatives, and Alt Right groups.
Leftists cutting off lifetime friends over politics, firing/getting people fired. Ostracizing of those politically and morally opposed to the Left. Designating foes as "bigots", "the Deplorables", "fascists", "Nazis", and worse. The "embracing, tolerant" Left at its ugliest and most dangerous. Progressives who are really Regressives. Who support the functional equivalent of White genocide by mass replacement of White Europeans with Middle Easterners who, as Muslims, are openly hostile to their host nations. As I said: ugly and dangerous.

Disrupting the "Alt-Right," aka, neo-Fascists, is the whole point of Antifa. Can't give the Fascist bastards an inch. We fought a world war to put those bastards down.

Alex Jones = Texas, USA. Muslim immigration = Europe. If the flow of migrants was reversed—if Europeans were flooding into the homelands of the people of the Middle East and Africa because of overpopulation, for example, we would rightly call this what it is: Colonialism. Letting their homelands be changed the way they have is a dangerous experiment that might collapse the society of their nations.
Europe is not the States. If I may be so poetic, the States was won through brutal conquest and built by slavery by a people who wove into their heavy karmic debt the golden threads of a grand ideal for humanity. The gods have not yet cut the blood soaked threads of this crimson cloth and let fall the harsh retribution the Republic has earned because of those golden threads of promise. This last, best hope of Earth, has endeavored to save human civilization from the stagnation of caste and the natural law of the animalistic dominance of the superior over the weak, inept, and foolish that is humanity's karmic and genetic inheritance—but it is not a task unmarred by strife, and pain, and hatred, and grief.
Here, Libertas stands and watches over the world like Guan Yin, holding up the torch of a Heraclitean fire that beckons humanity to awaken our hearts and minds, our 心s, to a greater destiny—but we each cannot run from ourselves. Wherever we go, there we are. Before we can live together with the Other, we must reconcile with what we perceive to be our "self." We must acknowledge our differences before we can realize our inherent Union. Better than handing out alms to the world is learning to light up our corner of it, and then spread our flame as a one lamp lights another.

At some point, cutting them off may not be an option. Better to confront them now. Assuming the victory of one's own side is arrogance. Even Hitler was mindful of the strengths of peoples he publically denounced as inferiors. One must strive to win the hearts and minds, the 心, of those who would be won by one's opposition.

Ken Kesey's speech at the Viet Nam Day Rally (as related in Tom Wolfe's Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test):
You know, you're not gonna stop this war with this rally, by marching... That's what they do... They hold rallies and they march . .. They've been having wars for ten thousand years and you're not gonna stop it this way ... Ten thousand years, and this is the game they play to do it... holding rallies and having marches... and that's the same game you're playing... their game ...
Whereupon he reaches into his great glowing Day-Glo coat and produces a harmonica and starts playing it right into the microphone, Home, home on the range, hawonking away on the goddamn thing—Home... home ... on the ra-a-a-a-ange hawonkawonk...
The crowd stands there in a sudden tender clump, most of them wondering if they heard right, cocking their heads and rolling their heads to one another. First of all, that conversational tone all of a sudden, and then random notes from the Day-Glo crazies behind him ripped out offen the electric guitars and the general babble of the place feeding into the microphone—did anybody hear right—
—all the while Kesey is still up there hawonking away on the freaking harmonica. Home, home on the ra-a-a-a-a-a-a-ange—
—ahhhh, that's it—they figure it's some calculated piece of stage business, playing Home, home on the range—building up to something like Yah! We know about that home! We know about that range! That rotten U.S. home and that rotten U.S. range!
—but instead it is the same down-home drawling voice— I was just looking at the speaker who was up here before me... and I couldn't hear what he was saying... but I could hear the sound of it... and I could hear your sound coming back at him ... and I could see the gestures—
—and here Kesey starts parodying Paul Jacobs's stabbing little hands and his hunched-over stance and his—
—and I could see his jaw sticking out like this... silhouetted against the sky ... and you know who I saw ... and who I heard?... Mussolini... I saw and I heard Mussolini here just a few minutes ago... Yep ... you're playing their game...
Then he starts hawonking away again, hawonking and hawonking Home, home on the range with that sad old setter harmonica-around-the-campfire pace—and the Pranksters back him up on their instruments, Babbs, Gretch, George, Zonker, weaving up there in a great Day-Glo freakout
—and what the hell—a few boos, but mainly confusion—what in the name of God are the ninnies—
—We've all heard all this and seen all this before, but we keep on doing it... I went to see the Beatles last month... And I heard 20,000 girls screaming together at the Beatles. .. and I couldn't hear what they were screaming, either... But you don't have to ... They're screaming Me! Me! Me! Me! ... I'm Me! ... That's the cry of the ego, and that's the cry of this rally!... Me! Me! Me! Me!... And that's why wars get fought... ego ... because enough people want to scream Pay attention to Me... Yep, you're playing their game...
—and then more hawonkawonkawonkawonkawonka— —and the crowd starts going into a slump. It's as if the rally, the whole day, has been one long careful inflation of a helium balloon, preparing to take off—and suddenly somebody has pulled the plug. It's not what he is saying, either. It's the sound and the freaking sight and that goddamn mournful harmonica and that stupid Chinese music by the freaks standing up behind him. It's the only thing the martial spirit can't stand—a put-on, a prank, a shuck, a goose in the anus.
—Vietnam Day Committee seethe together at the edge of the platform: "Who the hell invited this bastard!" "You invited him!" "Well, hell, we figured he's a writer, so he'll be against the war!" "Didn't you have enough speakers?" says Krassner. "You need all the big names you can get, to get the crowd out." "Well, that's what you get for being celebrity frak," says Krassner. If they had had one of those big hooks like they had on amateur night in the vaudeville days, they would have pulled Kesey off the podium right then. Well, then, why doesn't somebody just go up there and edge him off! He's ruining the goddamn thing. But then they see all the Day-Glo crazies, men and women and children all weaving and electrified, clawing at guitars, blowing horns, all crazed aglow at sundown ... And the picture of the greatest anti-war rally in the history of America ending in a Day-Glo brawl to the tune of Home, home on the range ...
—suddenly the hawonking on the freaking harmonica stops. Kesey leans into the microphone—
There's only one thing to do . .. there's only one thing's gonna do any good at all... And that's everybody just look at it, look at the war, and turn your backs and say ...
frak it...
—hawonkawonkawonkawonka—
—They hear that all right. The sound of the phrase—frak it—sounds so weird, so shocking, even here in Free Speech citadel, just coming out that way over a public loudspeaker, rolling over the heads of 15,000 souls—
—Home, home on the range hawonkawonkawonka, and the Pranksters beginning to build up most madly on their instruments now, behind the harmonica, sounding like an insane honky-tonk version of Juan Carrillo who devised 96 tones on the back seat of a Willys Jeep, saved pennies all through the war to buy it, you understand, zinc pennies until the blue pustules formed under his zither finger nether there, you
understand .. .
—Just look at it and turn away and say ... frak it
—say ... frak it ...
hawonkawonkawonka blam
—frak it—
frak. . .friends . . .
The logic of hate and confrontation of hate... you can't escape that paradigm. Antifa and the snow flakes shouting down anyone voicing oppression, patriarchy, etc. etc. etc. whatever litany of intellectual sin... is the culmination of the logic of confrontation.
As much as I morally find Milo Yiannapoulos an offensive dip shit, I'm not going to try and stop him from talking. If you're too stupid to see how deranged he is, is there hope for you (you, being the proverbial Alt Right moron, not anyone in particular)? Is there anything I could say, meeting you on the terms you define, that will change your mind?
The only approach that has ever worked when this paradigm has played itself out into a sclerotic script - in this case, moron march with torches and other morons engage, either in baiting a beat down, in which the cell phone footage displays the torch carrying moron's depravity, or, if the antifa out number the torch bearers, they beat down the torch bearers - is to transcend.
Turn that shit down.

Funny thing about NYC, you'll get run over lining up to buy a salad. But a couple of years ago I seriously injured my back and had to walk with a cane. Suddenly every single person was holding the door, getting out of their seat on the subway, waiting for me on the stairs, etc. They love an underdog.
