Sacred is an anagram of Scared, and I have to admit that I know quite a few people whose fear drove them to seek the Sacred, in one form or another.
We hear of the dying who suddenly want a relationship with a religion or deity to give them security in the 'afterlife'.
But what of Buddhists?
I wonder how many are motivated by a desire for enlightenment, and how many are scared about ending up in the hell realms for kalpas.
Me, a bit of both, and I don't think they are mutually exclusive.
How about you?

Scared of many things, but not so much hell.
Interesting question. Thank you for asking it.
Reminds me of an old fairy tale I read in a brother's Grimm collection when I was a kid, the man who set out to know fear. I've always thought that was a good story, and spoke to me personally.

I think both and they are not mutually exclusive.
The 20th century was not about how the Germans became nazis. It’s about how easily I could have been that camp guard at Auschwitz.
There’s no other way to heaven than through hell.
