The Worship of Donald Trump
Re: The Worship of Donald Trump
And unmentionable things with cigars and courtesans.
There is no suffering to be severed. Ignorance and klesas are indivisible from bodhi. There is no cause of suffering to be abandoned. Since extremes and the false are the Middle and genuine, there is no path to be practiced. Samsara is nirvana. No severance achieved. No suffering nor its cause. No path, no end. There is no transcendent realm; there is only the one true aspect. There is nothing separate from the true aspect.

Then, the monks uttered this gāthā:
These bodies are like foam.
Them being frail, who can rejoice in them?
The Buddha attained the vajra-body.
Still, it becomes inconstant and ruined.
The many Buddhas are vajra-entities.
All are also subject to inconstancy.
Quickly ended, like melting snow --
how could things be different?
The Buddha passed into parinirvāṇa afterward.

Re: The Worship of Donald Trump
there was a phenomenon in New Guinea for decades called 'cargo cults'.
Here, Trump is being equated with modern wealth and power and the ability to bestow prosperity, so, a god or deity representing material prosperity, wealth and power.Wikipedia wrote:A cargo cult is a belief system found in developing cultures in which adherents practice rituals which are aimed at bringing modern goods and technological culture. These cults were first described in Melanesia the colonial period. The name derives from the belief which began among Melanesians in the late 19th and early 20th century that various ritualistic acts such as the building of an airplane runway will result in the appearance of material wealth, particularly highly desirable Western goods (i.e., "cargo"), via Western airplanes.

Well, can't say the causality is exactly wrong... I suppose higher beings might see our sophisticated Buddhist rituals the same way?Wayfarer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 24, 2018 11:45 pm there was a phenomenon in New Guinea for decades called 'cargo cults'.

that leads into the whole subject of religion as ritual magic which I think is clearly connected with the image in the OP. And that in turn can be related to ideas like ‘prosperity gospel’ where religious ritual is seen to be a form of magic aimed at generating prosperity. I’m sure that occurs in Buddhist cultures also but presumably if the intention is only concerned with liberation then it doesn’t pursue such goals.

Re: The Worship of Donald Trump
You slay me. Seems like it would be some cryptic literary reference, knowing you, (Of Mice And Men?) but that rot thar is golden.
I imagine higher beings would experience something akin to amusement ranging to annoyance in so much as looking at us—more so dealing with us and even more so communicating with us. Likely there would even be some malevolent bug-squishers here and there. And while you might suppose that higher order beings would look down on our relatively confused practices, likely these might be more pleasant to behold for them than many of our other activities.
When it comes to higher beings, I do like those Jataka tales where the Bodhisattva puts various supernatural beings to task. And don't forget that the Buddha was the teacher of many. At the very least, they were fond of him—and many feared him.
Re: The Worship of Donald Trump
The causal connection between ritual and liberation can be a dicey subject.

He speaks tariffs into existence and unites war-torn nations. He lives in a great white palace and can fly throughout the world. He can screenshot your device and track you via satellite. He speaks to the masses through a tweeting blue bird. He has the power to increase the amount of income tax returns.

When Donald Trump was elected, the corpse of Richard Nixon emerged out of the earth in a giant jewelled stūpa and waved the arms of his "body-frame" to acclaim him.The Cicada wrote: ↑Sat Aug 25, 2018 2:37 amHe speaks tariffs into existence and unites war-torn nations.
