A Geofencing Buss in Göteborg Sweden

Post by Aemilius » Fri Dec 07, 2018 9:56 am

A new geofencing buss in Sweden cannot drive faster than 15km/h (= 9.32 mph). Look at the video https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/vast/ ... geofencing

Interesting, the technology must be something like what is being used here:

Before too long this will be in place everywhere.

3 out of 10 of Keoli's buses in Gothenburg drive too fast in public transport, showing a survey. Testing has begun to use GPS signals to control speed. The technique is called geofencing.

Geofencing is tested today on bus 55 in Gothenburg. When the bus runs up to Götaälvbron, the speed is automatically reduced to 15 kilometers per hour.

"How much the driver is," says Karl Orton, Technical Manager, Keolis.
Controlled via GPS signals In September and October, the bus company Keolis checked the speed of 6744 trips. In Göteborg, 3 out of 10 controlled buses drove too fast. By using Geofencing, the bus fleet could become more legitimate.

What is required is a technical equipment in the buses that can receive GPS signals. Via a digital map, zones are created where the speed to be applied to the zone is filled in.

Does this work on all buses today?

- No, but as the bus fleet is replaced. In five years, this technology will already be installed in the new buses, says Karl Orton, Technical Manager Keolis.

On behalf of the Government, Trafikverket has, with several partners, developed a strategy for how geofencing can be introduced on a broad front in society. On Thursday, the plan was presented at Lindholmen Science Park in Gothenburg.

"Initially, it is aimed at occupational traffic and that they will introduce this voluntarily. It may be bus companies or, for example, taxi companies, "says Lena Erixon, Director General, Trafikverket.

In the long run, can you force ordinary drivers to drive legally?

- Yes, in the end. But that is not where we will start. But if we can get the job traffic to keep the speed, we know that it will affect all other traffic and the speeds will be reduced, "says Lena Erixon, Director General, Trafikverket.

It is just GPS tracking, like the kind you use on live-time maps, or for finding lost/stolen phones, or in anklets/bracelets people on leave from jail are forced to wear, etc...

When the central system monitoring the buses receives a signal that the bus is in a particular area, it sends a signal back to the chip located in the automobile's engine (all modern automobiles have a central computer chip) which limits the speed the vehicle can drive at.

Many motorcycles, for example, have speed limiters factory installed, because their real horse power would turn them into death traps.

It is nothing new or particularly exciting.
