Encyclopedia of deities

Post by dolphin_color » Tue Aug 13, 2019 6:31 pm

Is there a traditional Tibetan text that is (or contains) an encyclopedia of the tantric deities? I'm talking about something similar in content to Vessantara's "Female Deities in Buddhism: A Concise Guide" or "A Guide to the Deities of the Tantra"? These describe what the deities represent, how they're classically represented, how they relate to other deities, and a bit about practicing them. If the text also goes into detail on bodhisattvas and protectors, that would be fantastic. It could be reasonable to assume that Kongtrul wrote something along these lines, but I don't have access to his big work.

Thanks for those book listed Dolphin. Did not know of them.
I do know of individual books on the female Goddesses/Buddha Kwan Yin and Tara. They both have multiple books out covering alot on each. But these are mostly well known.

You will probably enjoy this online version of the 仏像図彙

Also Lokesh Chandra did a whole encyclopedia. There are a few books like this in chinese too which detail specifically the tibetan tradition.
