What is the source of this deity?

Post by petertohen »

I'm familiar with the some of the stories about why we make the water offerings to Dzambhala. But I have not seen his name mentioned in any sutras or (the admittedly few) tantras I've read. What is the source of this deity? Is there a textual source? Did Dzambhala originate from India or from the Himalayas ?

Thank you in advance for any input. :buddha2:
