It's in a book called "Biographies of Rechungpa" or something like that.

The author translated excerpts from the earliest bios of Mila, such as Gampopa's account. Gampopa said Milarepa went to Marpa and had no money to pay for the teachings, so he worked as a labourer for Marpa for two years. There was nothing about the uncle etc.

Tsangnyon Heruka's version came from his visions. They have "truth" in terms of inspiring people perhaps, but it's not corroborated by earlier sources.
