What is the difference between conduct and setting an example?

They are closely related. Through our conduct that embodies bodhicitta we are setting an example for others and inspiring them to practice Mahayana dharma.
"All phenomena of samsara depend on the mind, so when the essence of mind is purified, samsara is purified. Since the phenomena of nirvana depend on the pristine consciousness of vidyā, because one remains in the immediacy of vidyā, buddhahood arises on its own. Through right conduct we set a good example for others to follow, however if our conduct is unskilful then of course we are setting a bad example for others to follow.
The example we set for others is a reflection of our own conduct.
