Hi all,
I'm wondering if there are practices (prayers, meditations, mantras) one can do to help with encountering one's heart teacher. For example, would the guru yoga practice in Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's Guru Yoga be appropriate, or is that a restricted practice that follows permission to practice ngondro? There's a possibility I've already encountered my heart teacher, but it's hard for me to know that with certainty as a beginner. General advice is appreciated in addition to practice recommendations.
Lately, I've been doing refuge while visualizing Guru Rinpoche as my refuge preceptor and hoping that will help remove obstacles.
Gratitude and blessings,
Eric

Finding one's heart teacher
ༀ་ཨཱཿ་ཧཱུྃ
Oṃ Āḥ Hūṃ
Om Ah Hung
"Whilst lacking pure renunciation there is no way to pacify
The continual thirst for pleasure in the ocean of saṃsāra,
And since all living beings are bound by their craving for existence,
You must begin by finding the determination to be free."
[from Je Tsongkhapa's Three Principal Aspects of the Path]

Maybe others have some alternative suggestions, but in my opinion you really can't go wrong with reciting "Calling the Guru From Afar", the prayer composed by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye.
Reciting the seven line supplication to Guru Rinpoche may be a good suggestion as well.
