Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche
I feel that DKR deserves a topic here on DW dedicated to sharing and discussing his teachings and contributions to Buddhadharma.
This is not a restart of the other thread. Want to debate controversies? start a different topic...
Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche has been without a doubt, the teacher that has introduced me through his videos on youtube, to some very important Buddhist teachings and concepts. Actually I can say that If I am still on the Buddha's path today, it is because of those videos. So I am very grateful for this Teacher and I hope this thread can help some people.

I kind of like how provocative he is.
There is not only nothingness because there is always, and always can manifest. - Thinley Norbu Rinpoche
Re: Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche
Didn't have yet the chance to meet him in person. I think I would like him
Impressive in media appearance though.
Here my favorite https://vimeo.com/229393163
I'd like to see a bit more transparently about his shedule. His website seems rather empty concerning this.

Ho! All the possible appearances and existences of samsara and nirvana have the same source, yet two paths and two results arise as the magical display of awareness and unawareness.

I really liked this teaching, and have watched it twice: A teaching on Compassion, Auckland, New Zealand, July 29, 2017. In Rinpoche's usual provocative style, he addresses this talk to Buddhist leftists, Buddhist liberals, Buddhist vegetarians, Buddhist feminists (I think), and Buddhist "vegetable soap users". It is a really great talk on compassion, though, IMO.

I really enjoyed his recently released teaching "Compassion, Avalokiteshvara and the Thousand Hands Sutra " which was given in Korea.

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche
About 10 years ago, I listened to a series of retreat audios on The Diamond Sutra by DKR ... excellent! I was on weeks retreat with Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche teaching the Diamond Sutra. As it was, he had to leave the retreat for 2 days bec he was flying back to AR to be sworn in as a US citizen. no avoiding that. He left us in good hands listening to Dzongsar Khyentse on the Diamond Sutra. At the time, I was a zennie and had no idea why I was drawn to go or who Kentrul was... (saw a flyer on a bulletin board and immediately decided). I tried to track DKR's audio after that, it was new and it was uncertain if it would be made avail.? For me, it was a great intersection of Diamond Sutra and zen koan across traditions.
Subsequently, I had a glimpse in person when DKR came to a great celebration of Red Tara in Northern CA, many teachers came.
As was my way, I cooked both times between teachings in order to be there.

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche
I attended a teaching a number of years ago at Tsechen Kunchab Ling in Walden, NY. His Eminence Ratna Vajra Rinpoche was the main teacher, DJKR also taught. Afterwards my two friends and I got in line to do the kata thing; we only had two katas, so I went first and planned to hand mine to the kata-less friend when I was done.
So DJKR was on the throne, I offered the kata, he put in around my neck, I moved forward a few steps, turned and passed the kata to friend. When I turned back, DJKR had come down from the throne In those two, maybe three seconds, and was standing six inches in front of my face. We're of a height - he was staring directly into my eyes. Talk about direct.

That blessing was just for you, I guess. Can't go back into re-circulation. Interesting story.

His provocative style did help me start to rethink my motivations.

It really warms my heart to see that others appreciate his provocativeness too.

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche
That’s because they’re not provoked. People love provocative until they’re provoked.
I used to see Dorje Kasung give talks and if someone asked timidly and politely about all the military imagery, they’d say it was to be provocative. But if somebody got in their face about it, the Kasung would get all defensive and weird.
I’m not actually trying to be provocative here myself, but I suppose I am being.
I guess there’s a whole style of relating in TB communities as in zen that’s like “perfortmative provocation”. I mean, sometimes at retreats as much as anywhere else it just seems like everyone’s just jockeying for position to get whatever needs they think they have met.

Well, I'm just kind of riffing on 'provocative' since that word always seems to come up in this context. The truth is, his style put me off for a long time.
Anyway, I like this one, where he talks about his ayahuasca trip:

I found this during a search for Khyentse Wangchug. I also found it interesting that he is omitted from Matthieu's wonderful new book.

Sorry that was a bit confusing. Totally off topic. I was referring to Khyentse Wangchug not appearing in the lineage tree found in this book.
