Requesting Empowerment

Post by csmorg96 » Mon Jan 15, 2018 3:27 am

What is the proper etiquette for requesting an empowerment from a lama? If the lama is being asked to perform the empowerment at their own center, is it still assumed that the person who requests the empowerment will cover all its costs?

The proper way to request an empowerment is by asking politely.
It's not assumed that the person making the request will cover all costs.
Kye ma!
The river of continuity is marked by impermanence.
Ceaseless flowing of appearance.
Beautiful and repulsive.
The dance of life and death is a display of the vast expanse.
With gratitude the watcher and the watched pass through the barrier of duality.

Generally, any formal request can be made along the following lines: three prostrations, request for particular teaching or practice, and an offering. While you might not be expected to cover the complete cost of hosting the empowerment, you should at least provide the money offering for the requesting and thanksgiving mandalas, as well as a small offering for the ritual assistants.
