Short Tara Praise Question

Post by Konchog1 »

What is the name of this praise? Is there any recording available?

Thank you.

OM chom dän dä ma lha mo dröl ma la chhag tshäl lo
Chhag tshäl dröl ma TARE päl mo
TUTTARA yi jig kün sel ma
TURE dön nam tham chä ter ma
SVAHA yi ger chä la rab dü
Equanimity is the ground. Love is the moisture. Compassion is the seed. Bodhicitta is the result.

-Paraphrase of Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tsephel citing the Guhyasamaja Tantra

"All memories and thoughts are the union of emptiness and knowing, the Mind.
Without attachment, self-liberating, like a snake in a knot.
Through the qualities of meditating in that way,
Mental obscurations are purified and the dharmakaya is attained."

I believe this is the abbreviated version of the 21 Tara praises, which comes from Atisha. Not sure if it actually has a specific name.

AFAIK Atisha received this condensed form of the 21 praises directly from Tara for swift accumulation of merit. I don't think it has any particular name.
H.E. Dagmo Kusho recites this prayer at about 21:14 in the video below.

Thank you. One of his disciples (I forget who) was sick. The disciple was told that if he recited the twenty one praises one hundred thousand times he would be cured. However, he was too weak to recite that many prayers so he asked the Atisha the Great for help.

Atisha prayed to Tara. Tara taught he this prayer saying that the blessing is equal to the twenty one praises. Atisha taught it to his disciple who recited it one hundred thousand times and was cured.

Is there a tradition to accumulate 100 thousands of this short praise to Tara? So far, i only accumulate Tara mantras but it seems with the story above, it is worthwhile to accumulate 100K of this short praise.

Does anyone have another audio recording of this? Trying to learn pronunciation but it's not so easy from the above video.

Couldn't one just recite it in English a hundred thousand times? It's more easier:
"Om. Homage to Tara the Noble and Sublime.
Homage to Tara the swift and courageous, you drive away all our fears with Tuttara!
Savioress fulfilling all aims with a Ture, with syllables Svaha we offer you homage!"

Yes, I've been taught that it's more important to know the meaning of what you chant.

If one receives the transmission in Tibetan, can they recite it in English instead?

I was in a rush so I didn't have time to explain that the transmission is of the text not the language
