Shiva is also considered a worldly protector of the Buddhadharma. In Mipham Rinpoche's Tashi Gyepa prayer, he refers to Shiva by the name Dejung (bde 'byung) or Sukhajāta, the "origin of bliss."
The Lotus Sutra and Karandavyuha Sutra also establish Shiva as an emanation of Avalokitesvara and he preaches the dharma in this form. The latter states that it is foolish people who regard him as a creator. What we can glean from this and the stories of Minapa and Goraksha is that Shiva is qualified to teach the Buddhadharma, but that does not mean that Shaivism leads to Buddhahood.
