Bidia Dandaron was a Buryat lama and heir to a short-lived "independent" Buddhist kingdom established by Lama Lubsan Samdan Tsydenov in 1919. Dandaron was persecuted his whole life and never attempted to resurrect the nascent kingdom but taught as a lama in prison and out.

Lama Tsydenov was one of the Buryat delegates who went to the enthronement ceremony of Tsar Nicholas II. It is said that he was the only person attending the ceremony who refused to bow down in front of the Tsar, reasoning that doing so would be against the Vinaya. When being told that all the other lamas bowed in front of Nicholas II, he replied that what they did is a real shame. His gesture had the potential to yield unpleasant consequences for the Buryats, so the other delegates had to save face explaining that Lama Lubsan Tsydenov spent so much time in strict retreat that he totally lost touch with reality.

When I was at the UN Vesak Day conderence in Thailand the monastic Sangha would not stand up to show respect for the royalty and their representatives. They are not obliged to. Actually it is the royalty that would stand up, out of respect for the monastic Sanghacyril wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 6:47 am Lama Tsydenov was one of the Buryat delegates who went to the enthronement ceremony of Tsar Nicholas II.
