Sichuan, Ganzi.

I think it is the first time we see photo with the head and partial body of a shrunken rainbowbody that is still in Tukdam. This yogi has chosen to be naked, only covered with a monk robe when he entered tukdam.

Anonymous yogi. I hope it is not a photo hoax. The monk with spectacle in the first photo is Lodro Ranse (rabsel?) Rinpoche.

So, silly question, when you achieve rainbow body, you shrink down and get really small??? How does that work?

You dissolve into light after death. Shrinking is so called small rainbow body, which is not complete rainbow body.
“Observing samaya involves to remain inseparable from the union of wisdom and compassion at all times, to sustain mindfulness, and to put into practice the guru’s instructions”. Garchen Rinpoche

For those who do virtuous actions,
goodness is what comes to pass.
For those who do non-virtuous actions,
that becomes suffering indeed.

Not a silly question...after the breath etc has stopped the body slowly reverts back to the elements and then into light leaving only the hair and nails behind. As was said previously this is called small rainbow body. The great transference is where the practitioner doesn't actually go through the dying process and very quickly reverts back to the elements/light.

AFAIK when the body only shrinks and doesn't dissolve to the point of hair and nails, this is the atomic body, which is a result of Trekcho practice. This is stated in Khenpo Namdrol Rinpoche's teachings on Longchenpa's tshig don mdzod.

What's the difference from the practitioner's side between small and complete rainbow body? Is it degree of realization? Does one who achieves small rainbow body go to Dewachen since they didn't revert to light completely?

Apologies for the ignorance of my questions.

Bows and mudita for this monk

In Dzogchen, rainbow body is a sign (rtags) that total Buddhahood - the fruit - has been realized. Such a practitioner does not go to any kind of pureland or nirmanakaya Buddhafield, because he or she is a total Buddha.

I don't want to comment on the current situation, but you should really take every photo shown nowadays with a grain of salt, to say the least.

Having commented, although you did not want to comment, do you feel better now?

Isn't that like telling a hungry person that eating breakfast is important?
It's technically true, but the timing of the advice shows an assumption more than it answers a need

The Tukdam state apparently only started a few days ago from 16th Dec.
