Tibetan Buddhist centres/temples in South Korea (Seoul/Incheon area)

Post by KiwiNFLFan » Mon Jan 28, 2019 7:40 pm

Hi, I primarily practice East Asian Mahayana Buddhism, but I do have a devotion to Tara. I'm mostly content to practice Buddhism in Korean temples, but I do want to take part in a Tara Puja.

Does anyone here know if there are any Tibetan Buddhist centres/temples in the Seoul or Incheon areas? I know there's a Diamond Way meetup but I don't know if they do Tara Puja.

There are Tibetan Buddhist groups in Korea, but they will be conducted in Korean, so I'm not sure how that would work out for you. There are three established centres, two in Seoul and one in Busan. The one in Busan, Gwangsungsa, is the oldest and biggest. It has a dedicated Tara shrine in the gompa, and holds a monthly Tara practice. Tibet House Korea has a centre in Seoul, but they don't have an up to date programme online. Tashi Choling has monthly White Tara practice. There are other groups that are based around lama visits and borrow space from Korean temples. There is a Drukpa Kagyu group associated with Tashi Jong, a Shangpa Kagyu group that hosts programmes when Kalu Rinpoche visits, and Glenn Mullin's Maitreya Sangha.

Gwangsungsa (Korea Tibet Centre): 85-3 Amidong 2(i)-ga, Seo-gu, Busa
Tibet House Korea/Labsum Shedrub Ling (Samhak sawon): 104-94 Bulgwang-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Tashi Choling (Seoul Tibetan Buddhist Culture Centre): 37 Dobong-ro 13-gil, Mia-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul
