I think this is some of the best advice I've heard on lama scandals. Ostensibly they are talking about Shambhala but also address the wider issue in Tibetan Buddhism:
Don't let the President be worse than the problem.

Good video!
All these scandals also point out just how insidious samsara is. It’s like a poisonous vine, winding it’s way around a healthy tree, ready to choke it’s branches.
If great teachers have this trouble, how much more watchful of our own minds we ordinary practitioners need to be.
This problem goes all the way back to the time of Shakyamuni, which is why he set up rules for monks which are very strictly followed in the Theravāda traditions.
