Letter to Aṅgulimāla

(from the Sangha)

You can't kill the Buddha
'cos he's already dead

And by the way so are you
at least that's what he said

But let's say that we were told
you were still alive

Even then you couldn't kill him
brother even if you tried

Look around you at the world you're in
you'll see it's not so nice

That's because in the past
you didn't follow his advice

Look around you at the world you're in
one day you'll realize

You can't kill the Buddha
'cos the Buddha never lies

You can kill the Dharma
if that's what you want to do

But you can't kill the Buddha
'cos the Buddha's word is true

If you want to kill us
you can kill the Sangha too

But you can't kill the Buddha
'cos the Buddha's word is true

( Angulimala the Bandit )

''While you are walking monk, you tell me you have stopped,
But now, when I have stopped, you say I have not stopped.
I ask you now, O monk, what is the meaning of it?
How is it you have stopped and i have not ?''

( Lord Buddha )

"Angulimala, I have stopped for ever,
Foreswearing violence to every living beings,
But you have no restraint towards things that breathe,
So that is why I have stopped and you have not.''
