More Pdfs from BDK

Discuss and learn about the traditional Mahayana scriptures, without assuming that any one school ‘owns’ the only correct interpretation.

I tried to download the two volumes of the Dīrgha Āgama but both had broken links. They are, however, available from the Wayback Machine.

The Society for the Promotion of Buddhism (Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai) in Japan and the independently-established Numata Center for Buddhist Translation and Research in Berkeley, California, are involved in the formidable task of translating and publishing the entire Taisho Daizokyo into English. Since it may take a hundred years or more to complete this task, it was decided that an English translation of the 1976 revised Shinyaku Bukkyo Seiten would be a quick and desirable way to provide general English readers with a concise collection of Buddhist scriptures. Thus, the first edition of the Buddha-Dharma was published in 1984.

This present edition is a thorough revision of the 1984 edition, with the addition of an introduction for each of the eight main sections, a listing of original sources for selected passages, the compilation of Sanskrit and Pali names and terminologies, an enlarged glossary, and a definitive index. Also, for this edition of the Buddha-Dharma, the translations of different sections undertaken by various Buddhist ministers in America for the first edition were carefully reviewed for consistency of word use to provide a faithful reflection of the original Japanese text.

Unlike other anthologies of Buddhist scriptures in English, which are arranged according to the various schools or sects with which the texts are associated, the Shinyaku Bukkyo Seiten, the original collection in Japanese, was arranged more or less chronologically, regardless of source, so that readers can appreciate the discourses of the Buddha in the context of his travels in India, from the time of his Enlightenment in Bodhgaya to his demise 45 years later in Kusinagara.
This 800pp book - Buddha-Dharma - is also now among the free PDFs.
