Looking for an authentic Mala necklace

Post by Jesse »

Hello all,

I am looking for an authentic Mala necklace, preferably one made with bodhi seeds. I believe that is the authentic type(?)

However I am not familiar enough with the culture to know the difference, I Am willing to pay anyone who has an extra one to offer.

I can pay via PayPal, or another service. (I am PayPal verified.)

Please let me know via PM if you have an extra to offer, do not offer any that are special to you, or one that has been blessed by your teachers.. I'm not looking for one that special. Mine broke, and everytime I Get one, they tend to be cheap knockoffs, even having paid very large sums for them.. I keep getting ripped off on them..

Also none made from human bone, nor any that exceed a price of about $100USD, I am not that rich. :broke:

So I'd very much appreciate being able to get a real one that will last a long time.

Thank you.

I do use them for mantras sometimes, but for me they simply represent my faith. I wear them as a reminder, as a commitment to bodhicitta, and compassion, and the 4 truths.

Breaking the thread is not uncommon, and there are strong threads around you can use to restring them. Sometimes good quality beads can come on pretty weak thread.

Breaking the beads is pretty uncommon in my experience. Some seeds are far more robust than others for wearing constantly. Bodhiseed is quite breakable in comparison with rudraksha, but rudraksha next to the skin can be uncomfortable unless the seeds have been smoothed down.

For bodhiseed, garudashop.com gets a second endorsement. :)

My previous ones were made from Sandalwood (I love the smell, the next one was Catseye Gemstone.) I Saved the Catseye stones, but I am not good at things like re-beading, or crafts in general.

I also tend to like the Eternal Knot Symbol (The endless knot or eternal knot (Sanskrit: śrīvatsa; Tibetan དཔལ་བེའུ། ), as I saw it in a dream once, or something very similar. (not that anyone will believe that.) I saw it in something that appeared to be more than 3 dimensions, and I've been drawn to it ever since. After reading about it it makes sense honestly. I wish I could remember it more vividly, but seeing something that vivid in a dream, and in more dimensions, than we normally perceive in makes it pretty difficult to imagine, or try to visualize. I only realized what it was later after seeing it hanging on a Mala.

My mala that I’ve used for more than thirty years is like this one:

I’ve had to restring it twice, waxed cord used for shoemaking seems to last well. The beads are now quite dark, but seem to put up with a lot of abuse.

The best thread for restringing is the one fishermen use to make/patch nets with.

It is waterproof and super strong.

You sure? They are pretty, for sure, but very lightweight and relatively easily damaged, which is what I thought you wanted to avoid.

:techproblem:

At least all I've ever broken was string. We'll see how it goes......
