Zen practitioner and Assistant Teacher Carole Kyodo Walsh passed peacefully on November 19, 2018 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Long time Zen practitioner Carole Walsh is the facilitator of the Broward Zen Group, the Florida extension of Lost Coin Zen.
Carole first started meditating at the age of 20 in 1968. A few years later, she joined a Fourth Way group in Woodstock, NY. In 1980 she entered residency training at Zen Mountain Monastery in Mt. Tremper, NY to study Zen with Roshi John Daido Loori. She was ordained by Daido Roshi in 1986.
After moving to South Florida in 1990, Carole continued her Zen practice on her own. She sat for a couple of years with a Zen group led by Roshi Phillip Kapleau, when he lived in Hollywood, Florida.
She facilitated the Broward Zen Group, under the auspices of her teacher, Roshi Daniel Doen Silberberg, founder of the Lost Coin Zen Group in San Francisco (who has given her the title of "Deshi" - "Assistant Teacher", while she continued her study and Zen training with him.
Many prayers for Carol and may she be free of suffering.
