Prayers for victims of abuse

Post by Revata BD »

I often wonder if, wherever they are, my parents that abused me in such vile ways ever came to realise their gigantic errors once death cleansed them of the narcissism that blinded them in life. I want them to know I forgive them but that isn't possible in death like it wasn't possible in life.
Therefore my request for prayers are for abuse victims throughout the world and universe. A prayer that they might find peace and closure in some beautiful and poetic way like I have been privileged to find in Buddhism. Traumatic memories are complex and wrapped around the mind like razor wire. I ask for prayers that might lessen their suffering and break the trauma bonds of abuse in their minds. For the abuser I ask for prayers that they might learn lessons their parents could not. That they might break the cycle of abuse over generations of families..... Thank you very much...

I know this is an old thread, but I remembered the Kwan Yin Prayer for the Abuser and thought it could be useful.

"We do not often hear of such compassion that there is prayer for the one who has abused others.

Yet many make such prayers. After an attrocity, praying for the well-being and healing of an abuser can be a act of supreme love. So when facing ghastly crimes that so often cause anger, Kuan Yin's 'Prayer for the Abuser' recalls for us the source of so much of the pain within the one causing damage - and askes for forgiveness.

[Kwan Yin's Prayer for the Abuser]
To those who withhold refuge,
I cradle you in safety at the core of my Being.

To those who cause a child to cry out,
I grant you the freedom to express your own choked agony.

To those who inflict terror,
I remind you that you shine with the purity of a thousand suns.

To those who would confine, suppress, or deny,
I offer the limitless expanse of the sky.

To those who need to cut, slash, or burn,
I remind you of the invincibility of Spring.

To those who cling and grasp,
I promise more abundance than you could ever hold onto.

To those who vent their rage on small children,
I return to you your deepest innocence.

To those who must frighten into submission,
I hold you in the bosom of your original mother.

To those who cause agony to others,
I give the gift of free flowing tears.

To those who deny another's right to be,
I remind you that the angels sang in celebration of you on the day of your birth.

To those who see only division and separateness,
I remind you that a part is born only by bisecting a whole.

For those who have forgotten the tender mercy of a mother's embrace,
I send a gentle breeze to caress your brow.

To those who still feel somehow incomplete,
I offer the perfect sanctity of this very moment."
"Please call me by my true names so I can wake up; so the door of my heart can be left open: the door of compassion." -Thich Nhat Hanh

"Ask: what's needed of you" -Akong Rinpoche

May Beautiful Namgyälma purify their sufferings in this and all future lives.
May they see Amida Buddha face to face.

One thing that I've found that helps me is rather than looking at myself as a victim of childhood sexual abuse is to look at myself as a survivor of child abuse.
I do agree that we need to forgive the abuser in order to get on with our lives.
