Preferred Time of the Day for Meditation

Post by Zhen Li »

I'm curious about what preferences are for the time of day for meditation.

Personally, I prefer before and after going to sleep. Usually 9PM-12AM and 6AM-9AM or 3AM-6AM.

I've gone for 6pm-9pm and 9pm-12am because my practice varies, although it's usually around 9:30pm

I picked the block from 6 a.m to 3 p.m. Any time I can get quiet space to myself, I'm good.

I'm a nightowl. I picked 12AM-3AM. That's the time I can really focus best. All other times of the day or night don't really make a difference to me, so I picked only one option.

I actually love to meditate in the early morning, around 6:00 a.m.

It is a perfect time for practicing meditation, as well as physical activity. I recently talked about, on my blog, about the holy hour. It is a set of habits introduce by Robin Sharma, to apply exclusively in the early morning to start better and face stronger the day.

You can find the explanation of this Holy Hour here: Holy Hour - Robin Sharma. After this, you will understand why practicing meditation in the early morning is the best solution.

Before breakfast is generally a good time to meditate. But for beginners, especially folks who are feeling stressed out, meditating at all can be daunting. In that case, I recommend simply putting your attention on slower, deeper breathing—even for just five minutes—early in the day before getting busy with anything

After waking up and before bed here.
I'm often awake for a while in the middle of the night too, so sometimes I do a third time until I fall asleep again.

I do multiple small (30-30m) sessions throughout the day of various stuff, two main periods one in the morning, one before bed. If I'm honest though, almost everything is sharper in the morning.

I'm with you. Except my "throughout the day sessions" are shorter. Torma offerings in the evening. More "meditaiton" in the morning, generally.

When I am away at work (work camp for 2 weeks) I wake up early at 0100 and I have to be at work at 0430. HH and I have a similar morning routine.. not that I am ANY where near to his level. But it was cool to see that video.
I have a LONG way to go... lol

I choose: 9pm-midnight, thats when I go to bed (near 11pm) and have some time to meditate, altought I may try some meditation during the sleep (when I woke up in the middle of the night).
