Time of meditation

Post by gusthgm » Thu Dec 19, 2019 6:42 pm

Hello guys, first I'd like to explain that I'm from Brazil, so english in not my birth language so please, forgive my language's errors. ;P
I use to meditate with vipassana since I've been in a Goenka's course, but lately its been a little hard for me to meditate more than 30 minutes per day, and this is causing me a little of agitation. Goenka's course says it takes like one hour to achieve deep states of the mind and it is recommended that we meditate for 2 hours per day, at least, so we can eradicate our suffering.
My question is: of course everything is valid in this world, but it is worth it to meditate only 30 minutes per day? Won't it "hold back" my progress in vipassana?

If you're asking about Goenka, you might want to ask this question over at our sister site: https://dhammawheel.com/

That said, if you can devote 2 hours to meditation a day, that is remarkable. If you can devote 30 minutes, that is remarkable.
If you can think of the Buddha and smile once a day, that is remarkable.

My two cents.
Those who, even with distracted minds,
Entered a stupa compound
And chanted but once, “Namo Buddhaya!”
Have certainly attained the path of the buddhas.

-Lotus Sutra, Expedient Means Chapter

There are beings with little dust in their eyes who are falling away because they do not hear the Dhamma. There will be those who will understand the Dhamma.

30 min is still way better than 0 minutes. Would 2 hrs be better than 30 min? Sure, but 30 min is still absolutely worth it.

It's not a question of time. It's a question of intention, method, and progress.
