Every moment the sanctity of life is preserved there is a moment of sanctity of life realized.
Wow :good:
A sounbite that sounds good until analysed in terms of Buddhadharma. The sanctity of life is a concept alien to Buddhadharma, because not compatible with the reality of Samsara. And Buddhanature remains free from such distinctions. Samsara is ALL conditioned existence not just the bad bits or the bits of which we disapprove.
Buddhadharma is radical and identifies life with Dukkha not with sanctity which is a concept more associated with Theism.
We take Bodhisattva vows not because life is somehow sacred, but because it isn’t. We take vows to lead away from Samsara not to honour it with sentimentality. This does not give us leave to destroy. But it certainly does not give us leave to regard Samsaric life with a sentimental or idealistic eye. The 1st Noble Truth makes that clear.
“The difference between us and Tara is that she knows she doesn’t exist”.

Without putting words into your mouth, it seems logical that samsara in this instance is also the bits we like and hold sacred?!

I mean samsara could be just a tiny enclave in a seething mass of chaos. Of course it's not going to be sorted out anytime soon. :crying:

My statement is the simplest encouragement to realizing the greatest Mayahana motivation which is to liberate sentient beings through practicing equanimity on a momentary basis.

I don't understand how it is interpreted as sacred samsara.

... which brings us back to simons point that sacredness is alien to buddhadharma.

Except the word sanctity according to the Cambridge dictionary means sacred in religious context or great respect outside of it.

So it begs the questions WHOSE mind did the sacred meaning really come from?

I was under the distinct impression that engaging in life-threatening or dangerous behaviour, including but not limited to plucking one's eyeballs out, spontaneous combustion, death by tiger and so on, was generally discouraged until one had reached the Bodhisattva grounds.

More reasons to look on mosquitoes with weariness.
Those who, even with distracted minds,
Entered a stupa compound
And chanted but once, “Namo Buddhaya!”
Have certainly attained the path of the buddhas.

-Lotus Sutra, Expedient Means Chapter

There are beings with little dust in their eyes who are falling away because they do not hear the Dhamma. There will be those who will understand the Dhamma.

The wake of rationalism should not undermine the desire to know equanimity or it simply will.
