Good Old Days

Democrats themselves used to recognize the dire implications of impeachment for the
Nation. For example, in the past, Chairman Nadler has explained:

The effect of impeachment is to overturn the popular will of the voters. We
must not overturn an election and remove a President from office except to
defend our system of government or our constitutional liberties against a dire
threat, and we must not do so without an overwhelming consensus of the
American people. There must never be a narrowly voted impeachment or an
impeaclnnent supported by one of our major political parties and opposed by
another. Such an impeachment will produce divisiveness and bitterness in our
politics for years to come, and will call into question the very legitimacy of
our political institutions.
144 Cong. Rec. HI 1786 (daily ed. Dec. 18, 1998) (statement of Rep. Jerrold Nadler).

Nicholas, Nicholas...

Do you have a point?

And chanted but once, “Namo Buddhaya!”

That may be true. For some people, it's just another boring drama. Ho hum, change the channel. Nothing that affects me, the observer above the fray.

For others, the way the stories play out will have slightly more personal repercussions. Some of us ignore it at our peril.

I'm no fan of the US's foreign wars, but the abrupt withdrawal from Syria, for instance, is probably going to get a bunch of people who fought alongside Americans and others against IS killed by another "ally"... and for what? So that Ivanka can eventually build a golf resort in Istanbul.

I'd take Nixon any day over this buffoon.

Now that he's betrayed America's kurdish allies and opened them up to persecution by a hostile state entity, he might lose some conservative votes. Maybe that will be enough to offset the terrible horrible no good idea of the Democrats not dropping this impeachment pipe dream. IMO.

Precisely.

I don't think so.

The Fox News propaganda machine is on full blast painting this as overreach by the Democrats. They are aiming to burn the Constitution to protect this guy. Hannity last night looked like he was going to pop a blood vessel or two.

Fox News' own polls show 51% of the country favors impeachment now.

This is the point where David Koresh burned the compound down, and where Jim Jones served his Kool-Aid.

BTW, the arrests have started. Two associates of Guiliani got popped this morning, and two others have been indicted. This is moving fast.

Just to add -

On Fox News, this process is being characterized as a coup. One idiot went so far as to call this a regicide.

The language that Fox is employing is outrageous and irresponsible. I am wondering if its rising to the level that the FCC could shut Fox News down (obviously not under this President, but we are going to have to have a reckoning).

If I ever want to test my compassion I only have to think of Guiliani. The man is a complete piece of shit. He announced his third marriage in a press conference before he had told his second wife he planned to divorce her.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been more attention paid to what exactly he’s been doing here. He was the gobetween that trump sent to talk to ukraine - and he’s a private citizen, not a state department or justice department employee, he shouldn’t even be in the room. Who did he talk to and what did they discuss?

Don't forget: The Buddhist path not only requires compassion, but it requires wisdom as well, as many others have already advocated, to avoid "Idiot Compassion" ;)

It seems your criticisms of political figures such as Guiliani, does have validity. Also it should be carefully evaluated on the level wealth and "benefits" one such figure heas already acquired over and against society, and what actions they have done to do so to acquire such, and whether for harm or benefit.

Marriage unfaithfulness and cheating definitely falls within violation of the third precept over sexual misconduct, taking other's bodies for granted for one's own selfish desires.

One hopes so. I saw that "regicide" comment too, and was laughing to keep from crying. One of the great ironies of our time, that a president who spouts the phrase "fake news" 24/7/365 should be so in bed with the Numero Uno Fake (Faux) news peddler on the airwaves.
