Trump is like the perfect storm of insanity and idiocy in US politics. The politics here have always been polarized. Some could argue that it's part of what makes America what it is. Great, lol

If Trump now represents the entire US, then the same was true for Obama (who was easily elected for two terms). If anyone, left or right, can find a decent candidate in three years, Trump's days are over. At least we have a term limit and the president can only do so much harm.

America is the most powerful nation in the world. There will always be haters.
And, the US is also the most dangerous country in the world.... responsible for mass murder and the destruction of countless countries. I am ashamed.

It serves nothing to continue to focus on that sociopath in the White House. The silver lining could be that the rest of the world, including the UK who is a prime enabler, will wake up and say NO. Ofc, it's hard when they are financially tied to this corruption for their own survival. The so-called American Electorate is a most dangerous illusion.

There is no reason, no reason at all, to attack North Korea.

No such thing as a "most powerful" or "greatest country" in the world...

I did not say America was the "greatest" country, but it is the most powerful country in the world by any number of measures:

Economic
Military
Resources

I also never said this was a permanent condition. The most powerful nation in the world, after all, used to to be Britain.

Within months, the Eisenhower administration was plotting to overthrow Castro and similar efforts would continue for decades. By a conservative count, the CIA mounted at least eight separate assassination attempts against him,

oh really...what motivates him then..for me everything is about how one lives and what we do.

Maybe we have different views of what Buddha left for us and how we should approach His Teachings and use it to live a proper life.

insulting people on a forum is just part and parcel to what? something you enjoy???

he has has history with this sort of insult thing...since i've been here i've been tangled in it before...so it's an on going thing.

even if it was some auto correct thing as mentioned yesterday by someone...why not simply apologize instead of referring to me as some sort of paranoid.?

maybe you don't actually get what Buddhist practice is about...you might be lost in esoteric meanderings that really do nothing to correct a correct way of living now,and give a means to grow ...here in this world and become a compassionate being...

he added insult to injury...and for me ,anyway as Nichiren practitioner , it is all about seeing when one does stuff like that and correct it.
that is basic Buddhist practice in one's daily life....

Thanks, but could you elaborate?
having the largest military budget how does that equate to being the most powerful?
Economically what do you mean exactly, again its not about amount (or your crazy debt lol) but how you use it, if I compare the US with my own country, our welfare, the way ppl are cared for (elderly, veterans, health care, prisoners etc etc) is so much better then in the US, the gap between rich and poor is kind of criminal in the US compared to our standards. I mean "power" is not what you have right its how you use it, you agree?

The way you have "taken care" of puerto rico compared to how we rebuild Sint Maarten after the hurricanes, you see my point? Where's the power?

it being a Buddhist forum i thought a little buddhist perspective might help the guy grow out of this bullshit.
sometimes we think we are practicing Buddha's teachings but if it does not help you grow and develop as compassionate sentient...then a good friend in Buddhism should remind you...

At least we have a term limit and the president can only do so much harm.
I usually flip through CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg, Fox Business and Fox News, and sometime a couple others - Al Jazeera, NHK (Japan), and some of these new news channels, for a half hour or so in the evenings just to see what the pulse is - basically until I start gagging. One thing I've noticed is that the quality of the English language used has become remarkably coarse. F'bombs, "shit", "jack ass", etc. have become regular words in the talking head lexicon. Anderson Cooper in an exchange with Jeffrey Lloyd comparing Trump's comments to defecating on a desk is one remarkable one. Could you imagine Walter Cronkite saying anything like that? This is directly attributable to Trump's coarsening of discourse. And this doesn't even get to the deadening of thoughts itself with all this denial of facts and gas lighting coming out of the press secretaries.

There used to be some sense of decorum in public discourse - but this President is normalizing bad language, bad grammar (Ivanka is a product of some of one of the "best" private schools in NYC, and she still can't speak English well), and bigotry, racism, and straight up stupidity.

I wonder how we're going to repair this - we need a truly decent person to have the Bully Pulpit for at least 8 years to reset the course.

Sad!
Those who, even with distracted minds,
Entered a stupa compound
And chanted but once, “Namo Buddhaya!”
Have certainly attained the path of the buddhas.
