Wherever a Buddha appears - the world is purified

The statue had a remarkable effect, however. People stopped leaving garbage and, gradually, the local residents began cleaning up the accumulation of detritus from the area. The drug dealers and prostitutes moved elsewhere to ply their wares, and the graffiti, once removed, didn’t return.
Those who, even with distracted minds,
Entered a stupa compound
And chanted but once, “Namo Buddhaya!”
Have certainly attained the path of the buddhas.

-Lotus Sutra, Expedient Means Chapter

There are beings with little dust in their eyes who are falling away because they do not hear the Dhamma. There will be those who will understand the Dhamma.

You can see it on Google maps street view, which is kind of cool. Dzogchungma and I are planning to go check it out this weekend.

:woohoo:

I just checked, and it's only about one and a half miles from Ngakchang Gatshal.

Nice. I've given up thinking anything will change my corner. It's like Oakland gangland collided with a small town meth epidemic.

Well, I've had many Buddhist images in my apt for years and it's still a sty. :pig:

Yeah, but it's still worth probably at least $1.5 million. :)

Pardon me Dzogchenpa for my joke regarding property values in the Bay Area. Anyhow, I'm going to put up prayer flags and such. It can't hurt, I hope!

Thanks! The real world value is actually about 20 million dollars. :quoteunquote:

Oh, there's no need to apologize. I actually live in a rent controlled apartment so I don't really know how much it would go for, or even if it's the kind of thing that could actually be sold. You may, however, apologize for addressing me as 'Dzogchenpa'. My handle is 'dzogchungpa'.

Dang autocorrect. Tbh, I'm shocked that Dzogchenpa even comes up in my autocorrect.

Rent controlled apartment, eh? Never was lucky enough to have one myself, but I knew some ppl that have in NYC...they had to fight tooth and nail to keep them.

Back to the OP, I think any dharmic activity in a neighborhood is beneficial. When saying my prayers, I think about the people across the corner and pray for their enlightenment.

Thanks! I am happy you are coming to your senses too.

I'll tell you a short story, that my Buddha statue was bought from my Mother when she was in India. Inside the little container in the bottom, was some Lama medicine and my Lama told me to inhale the smokes of the herbs inside. I have no idea what it really was, but it cleared my mind. Then my Mom asked me to not smoke that stuff because she thought it was drugs and I threw it in the trash. I am so angry now I threw away this priceless brain medicine and why I listened to my mother. Can't laugh or cry about it, but I feel cheated. lol

It's not a crisis, you can ask your Lama about some herb medicine.

Even without the herb medicine, I will still sell my Buddha statue for 15 million dollars.

Don't do it today! It is an unfavorable day for hanging prayer flags. 😁
Then, the Licchavi Vimalakīrti spoke to the elder Śāriputra and the great disciples: “Reverends, eat of the food of the Tathāgata! It is ambrosia perfumed by the great compassion. But do not fix your minds in narrow-minded attitudes, lest you be unable to receive its gift.”

Dig. I think this one should be called, "Friendly neighborhood Buddha".

I suppose one could say that I now live in a "barbarian land." We put up a small rock garden in the front yard that has a Buddha statue. Many have remarked on it, that it looks very nice, and several anonymous people have left gifts of painted stones and flowers in front of it. At the least it gives people walking buy something to think about other than college football, barbecue, and college football. :)
"Knowledge is as infinite as the stars in the sky;
There is no end to all the subjects one could study.
It is better to grasp straight away their very essence--
The unchanging fortress of the Dharmakaya."

I'm a ways away from being ready to put them up, thanks though. Plus, I ordered some thinking I was getting the average size and instead they are enormous, more for a temple than my backyard.

There's a house near me that has a Buddha displayed very nicely in front and I really enjoy seeing it whenever I walk by. Here's a picture we took today:

It really changes the feeling of that street, at least for me.
