No meat, no dairy products. Seafood is allowed on some days. At the closing stages, approaching the communion date, one does not eat oil either.

I'm not Greek Orthodox Christian, I'm a Buddhist, remember?

I just thought it may be something you did if your parentsGrigoris wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 8:20 amI'm not Greek Orthodox Christian, I'm a Buddhist, remember? But I am a vegetarian and teetotaler anyway (except for tsog/ganachakra).

I have no doubt about you being a Buddhist.

Some people just love it. There really isn't much more to it. Some people are wine afficionados. Some people are just alcoholics dressing their addiction in the trappings of sophistication. Some people are happy with Thunderbird and Wild Irish Rose. Some people who really love pot, really get into it as an encompassing identity - hemp clothes, rasta colors and pot leaf motifs. Why do people adopt any obsession? Some grown men walk around in shirts with other men's names on them because they are such fans of their athletic capabilities. People are weird.kirtu wrote: ↑Sun Mar 11, 2018 6:02 pmA couple of times with friends .... (literally a couple of times).dzogchungpa wrote: ↑Sun Mar 11, 2018 3:47 pm

...have you ever tried understanding the obsession with marijuana...
...on weed, man?
So anyway, what is the obsession about?

Well, that's kind of like saying "I recited a couple of manis once. So, what's the obsession with Tibetan Buddhism about?" These things require steady application.

Not that relevant, but
After one small tipple of beer to many, yesterday involved a couple of very small bowls . eughhhhhhh .
I used to be a daily smoker, but it now just annihilates any clarity that was present - it's like iv'e gone 18 steps down the evolutionary chain....
Learnt a valuable lesson! Hopefully this shame will ----> Restraint -----> Faith
Anyway... the moral is that whenever I think I can act out of equanimity that very thought should be enough to signal the dualistic contradiction inherent within , and that I think it's time to recognize my own limitations and take a vow against intoxicants .

Re: Weed is now legal in California
I had a similar experience recently with booze. I'd quit for 4 or 5 years after taking refuge after realizing how unhealthy, mind-dulling and repressive my drinking habit was. Recently I figured I'd allow myself to drink occasionally, predictably, things began to escalate and I found myself deciding to just quit for a month. After that month the difference in clarity was so notable that I've decided to go at least a year before even considering a casual drink. I didnt perceive that drinking a few times a month could have such an effect overall until I stopped again.Joseph wrote: ↑Sun Apr 01, 2018 8:11 amNot that relevant, but

Unfortunately some people are very susceptible to these substances. Some alcohol for many people should be fine though. But for some it's not.Johnny Dangerous wrote: ↑Sun Apr 01, 2018 6:21 pmI had a similar experience recently with booze. Tobacco clearly just obscures ones inner body. I've seen one Zen teacher smoke (and he admitted that it was an addiction and didn't recommend it). It probably obscured him as well (IMHO he was highly realized). Then I heard of one highly realized Tibetan teacher who took tobacco in some form. Then I think a person like Dudjom Lingpa smoked but used it to demonstrate that one should not smoke. For most people it just clearly completely obscures them.

Re: Weed is now legal in California
I actually should have known better, once one has a few years of consistently addictive behavior with a substance, it's diffcult to ever handle it normally again. I'd convinced myself that it was long ago and now was different. To a degree I was right, itd take a lot to bring me back to my old patterns, but that doesn't change the fact that alcohol has a bad effect on me.kirtu wrote: Unfortunately some people are very susceptible to these substances.
