Actually it is none of my business as the saying goes, "De gustibus non est disputandum".
I just wanted to add one of my precious Gurus who happens to be a Dzogchen Master on the recommendation list. I have nothing against Chögyal Namkhai Norbu at all (quite the opposite, in fact). Also be aware that a true Dzogchen Master will try to make you more and more independent from him or her, not more dependent and attached.

I wish you all the best, too.

This seems odd that anyone providing alternatives to a suggested teacher would
be read as not thinking favorably of that teacher. I suggested alternatives and yet ChNN is
one of my own precious teachers, one of the first to introduce me to Dzogchen,
and I revere him. That said, people have greater or lesser karmic affinities with different
teachers. And some may prefer a teacher that is closer to them in location, or who is more accessible to private interviews than another equally great option, etc etc. So providing various qualified options instead of everyone just saying "there can only be one!!!" Like this is Highlander or something, seems the best way to answer the OP!

Self correction:
"When one is interested in the teachings, one follows the teacher." (ChNNR)

I can understand how he could become "addictive", but seriously now, I want the teachings.

Just to point something out though, the OP Lunak has not logged on once since he made this post. Maybe he's seen the replies without logging on, or maybe not. But perhaps this thread should be laid to rest since it's been a lot of effort from various well intentioned people and even disagreement in response to one person's request who may not even care enough to ever look at the replies!

Hello!

I am a bit ashamed and so happy seeing all the answers. The thing is that I didn't enable notifications for the answer, I and always do it, this time I might have forgot or something.

And today, just to be sure that no one repied, I checked the thread, and the number of answers, and amount of information amazed me :). Now I will search for all the teachers you mentioned, and search for possibility of retreat.

Thanks so much to all of you! I promise I will use all the information you put in this thread.

In the meantime I started to read a book by Tsoknyi Rinpoche "Open Heart, Open Mind: Awakening the Power of Essence Love", for now it's great.

I say again that I am amazed, and very grateful. And for sure I will post my conclusions later on.

So far, after reading all the answers, and before browsing the web for details, I have one question; is there a possibility to meet Rinpoche in person, indivifually? How would you compare this to the retreat, which I thought, was only option?

of course, there is always possibility for individual conversation. The best way is always to ask organizer or Rinpoche's assistant about possibility and they will advise.

Well the OP returned and is very happy about the replies so far, so my comments above were unwarranted and I am sure the thread will continue.

Hi :)

I mu st say after some browsing I am a little confused. I simply don't know what to choose, maybe you can help me somehow. I am interested in the retreat, or the place where I can learn AND practice. I am not interested in more theory than neccessary. I am not Buddhist, I would rather consider myself agnostic. I am not going to be the monk. I use the meditation "just" for better well-being, and better counciousness, awareness, self-development. building empathy, calmness, stillness etc... Whereas some of Rinpoche that you all mentioned seem to be teaching with a lot of theory and religion-oriented. Or maybe I am wrong...

I initially had in mind, that I need a kind of "course"/retreat, and that's what I am still searching for. From several to max 15 days of techings and practice.

For now I found these retreats, that seem to be suitable:
- Alan Wallace retreat in Spain in March: Meditation retreat on “The Way of Śamatha: Soothing the Body, Stilling the Mind, and Illuminating Awareness”. I started the discussion in another thread, but there seem to be not much people experienced with his teachings
- I found some retreats with Anam Thubten, mostly USA, these seem to be Dzogchen (like this: https://www.zendust.org/event-anam-thubten-2016
- I found workshops like this also: https://www.zendust.org/event/keith-dowman-apr-2016
- Tsoknyi saminars, like this one http://www.tsoknyirinpoche.org/retreat/ ... s-on-fire/
- on this page http://shenten.org/index.php?option=com ... 06&lang=en there are some potentially interesting retreats (August 21th until August 26th "Practice retreat on Dzogchen meditation practice with Yongdzin Rinpoche and Khenpo Tenpa Yungdrung Rinpoche" AND "May 1st until May 6th Teaching retreat on Kusum Rangshar" - but this seems to be more theoretic one)
- Minguyr Rinpoche retreat France (http://tergar.org/events/tergar-europea ... reat-2016/)
...and more... I am still browsing...

I also looked at http://melong.com/ as I thought there may be something like global retreat schedule on the site which is called International Dzogchen communicaty", but I didn't find anything.

So - questions that are now in my mind:
- if you've heard by any chance about a retreat/course, which would potentially fulfill my needs specified above, please let me know. The thing is that I don't feel competent to choose. That's why I would need your suggestion based on my needs listed.
- if you have another idea, how I can make progress as a Dzogchen beginner, suggestions welcome!

thank you again :)

And I am sorry for my lack of competence (traditions, shcools, lineages), I am learning the basics now :)

Lukasz, all I will say is that you have a chance to do something with Anam Thubten, you should go for it.
As I pointed out earlier, he will be in France in July, see: http://www.dharmatafrance.fr/evenements.html.
You can see his full schedule here: https://www.dharmata.org/events-calendar/.

Lunac, from the way you described yourself, and your concern about 700 euro for a retreat, you might want to explore Anapanasati rather than the 9th yana, and Goenka retreats are free

for now I decided to go to Alan Wallace in March, Spain. Should be really good for beginner like me. Afterr that I will choose further.

Thank you all again for all provided information, thanks to that I have my personal database of resources, that I will for sure use.

I will come back to this thread after my retreat to say how it went for me :)

Yes, in point of fact there is. Chogyal Namkhai Norbu has done more to promulgate Dzogchen teachings than any other living master. Who else teaches Sems sde, klong sde, man ngag sde, etc. in their complete form, not merely as theories, but as practices? Can you name anyone? No? I didn't think so.

So, while it is true a star, the moon and the sun are all the same in that they illuminate the Earth from the sky, there is a difference in their power to illuminate.

For example, there have been many Dzogchen masters in Tibetan History, but no one would argue that Longchen Rabjam wasn't the greatest Tibetan Dzogchen master in History.
Haha love it, ruthless. It's so misunderstandings about "things" even such simple to understand in buddhism communities that's a really good karma that people have you there.
