Kulayaraja Tantra

Post by Erik Pema Kunsang » Wed Oct 11, 2017 5:13 pm

Dear friends,

I love this tantra and would like to know of translations, whole or in parts, as well as translated commentaries worth recommending.

And I do have Supreme Source.

Thanks in advance.

Well, for starters, the first chapter is translated in "Wellsprings of the Great Perfection".

The only translations I know of so far, is:
- "The Supreme Source", a translation by Adriano Clemente (Tibetan to Italian), and translated into English from the Italian, by Andrew Lukianowicz.
- "Kunjed Gyalpo Series", a translation by Jim Valby (Tibetan to English), a series consisting of the root text, and commentary on the tantra, by Khenpo Zhenphen Ozer (https://www.tbrc.org/#!rid=P2DB5991). So far six volumes have been published, and two more remain. Can be purchased from here: https://sites.google.com/site/jimvalbythings/

Then, to be fair, there is also Neumaier-Dargyay's translation, but this one has been criticized from left to right for many years so I feel there's no point in recommending this one.

That means Jim is translating the entire tantra? If yes, that's wonderful news !!
I lost touch with him since a decade.

How about the commentary by Khenpo Zhenphen Ozer (https://www.tbrc.org/#!rid=P2DB5991) ? I saw it cited someplace.

I believe so yes. Jim is translating a number of Semde-related texts. He has also translated and published the Changchub Sem Tsemo Chungyal (as "The Self-Originated Victorious Peak of Pure Perfect Presence"), with commentary by Nubchen Sangye Yeshe. He has also translated the Mejung Tantra together with Adriano Clemente and Elio Guarisco, published as "The Marvelous Primordial State".

And yes, he is translating the commentary by Khenpo Zhenphen Ozer in his "Kunjed Gyalpo Series" volumes.

So it's root text plus commentary by Khenpo Zhenphen Ozer, then a volume with only the root text translated (including Tibetan critical edition), as well as material by Longchenpa on this tantra.

I linked it in my above post, but you can check out his site here: https://sites.google.com/site/jimvalbythings/

I am not sure about the current availability, but you should just contact Jim and check anyways.
